We claim to be one of the most scientifically advanced countries in the world, but we can't adopt a useful standard that the _rest_ of the scientific community uses.
All the good scientific theories start on the back of a napkin anyway so what is the point.
No, if Linux were to ever get the marketshare Windows has it wouldn't have these problems. There are too many flavors of Linux out there not to mention dependancy hell would also prevent worm/virus writers to exploit holes on the same level that Windows gets it. If you look at some of the recent worms, they only hit Win2k and XP. NT4 often goes untouched because less people use it so the worm authors just ignore it.
Even on desktop systems, this is old. Plenty of games have used this technique for a long time. Golf, for instance, in which your swing is determined by how long you hold your click.
True, true. But this is for an application launch button. Totally different. Take my Visor for example. If I press the Phone button I get my phonebook. If I press and hold it for a long time I still get my, wait... It beams my business card. Ok, prior art.
There are people with masters degrees or better with 6+ years of college starting below $30k teaching. It will take them 10 or more years to get what you are being offered now. If you think you can make that amount waiting tables then do it and see what you can get waiting tables a year from now. I bet you it will be a down hill ride.
Now take the IT job at $40k and shop yourself around once you have a year of job experience. Your first job always pays low but you are not going to spend your whole career at that first job. Starting out you're going to want to move every couple of years. Doing that you will see huge jumps in salary. You're better off thinking of your first job as just another year of education.
You don't want to come out of college with the attitude that you've done 4 years and deserve more. Because you don't. You deserve the market value for an entry level programmer. Once you have a resume with some amazing feats then you can say you deserve more and hopefully you will get it if you shop yourself around.
Maybe, just maybe they are trying to hurt online sales so they can see more "lost revenue from CD sales due to file sharing." You can write off theft, but you can't write off lack of sales because today's music sucks.
Anyone know if they can actually claim these made up numbers as theft? It would be interesting.
Bell Labs was the brain power of AT&T and they went to Lucent when the company spun those business off several years ago. Did I miss AT&T picking them back up or something?
It just showed women carrying buckets of cement on their heads while talking about the region becoming a high tech haven. I thought and still think it was amusing. But now that I think about it, it might be too difficult to attach a cement mixer to a rikshaw or a bicycle. So maybe it was more efficient.
I think it was one of Cringley's PBS programs that showed Novell building an office in Bangalore. What cracked me up was the construction methods, women carrying buckets of concrete on their heads. Here we were investing all this money into this area and no one checked to see if they could use a cement truck.
Anyway I think of that image when ever I hear about high tech Bangalore.
This is only a fad. I've been on the US side of more than one offshored project at more than one company and lets just say these companies sometimes get what they pay for.
If you are still in highschool now, this fad will be gone by the time you get out of college. All the high paying jobs just can't over seas. For one, our country can't afford it. We just passed a huge medicare plan and the math doesn't add up. This thing has to be funded and it can't be funded by software engineers who are working in the food and beverage industry so if this thing doesn't die out on its own, the government will have to stop it. But I think it will fizzle on its own.
It seems to me that when the music and film industries complain about prirating, we often cry out that they are just refusing to deal with changing technology. They ought to adapt. If they can't adapt, they ought to go out of buisiness.
I agree, if Hollywood wants us to stop pirating movies then they should follow Bollywood and produce nothing but Hindi musicals. That would put an end to the piracy.
Or they could have hired someone to do the website and that person plagarized the article. Just because Toro is a big company doesn't mean they are ethical in all their dealings. Just take a look at Worldcom, Enron, and Global Crossing to name a few.
Why do people feel they have to buy every game that is coming out during the release week? What do you get for buying early or pre-ordering? Overcharged? I usually wait 2-3 months and save about $20, or the full price if I hear the game sucks and I skip it.
Then it dawned on me that DVD's get ripped and posted to the internet months if not years before the TV version gets Tivo'd and posted. So my question is why are they wasting all this time and money to implement a broadcast flag when it is pretty much irrelevant?
Now I am beginning to wonder what the real use of the flag is for. It isn't for copying because at this point the copies already exist. Maybe it is for tighter control over Tivo, timeshifting, skipping adverts.
Reading the articles answers a lot of questions. Oh wait, this is slashdot. Yes, they mentioned low quality analog like VHS and a low rez DVD as being allowable.
No, you raid the homes of the mayor and city council members in the middle of the night to see what kind of planning they have for people using the alleys to sell drugs.
My thoughts is MIPI will uncover porn and people will be shocked.

Why do so many reviewers feel the need to photograph shipping boxes and packaging materials? Are you reviewing the product or the shipping department?

Most of my purchases have been through iTunes this year. Go figure.
Let's break out the mandolin. I don't think the mandolin is the best thing to test out the bass with. Maybe if they were building a giant tweeter.
I am planning on building a mandolin soon but first I need to make some tools, jigs, and templates. Anyway, you might want to check out the Musical Instrument Makers Forum. They have many links on building everything. You can spend days looking at everything.

What Differentiates Linux from Windows?
A license to use code from SCO?
Sounds like you didn't do a whole lot of thinking about this before you grabbed an iPod or you might have bought a Diskman instead.
If it is bugging you that much just return it.
Not all markets offer portability right now. Only a few markets were required to. The rest is happening in May I believe. That may be your problem.

Until the lawers get involved then it will be this- and that-.
I'm waiting for their more resource efficient Sunbird product.
I already pay $34.95 a month for my internet. Why would I want to pay more money for a free one?
