EQ set the standard but they long ago raised the price. The trick is to prepay for 3-6 months and save money. That is what they want you to do at least, keeps you locked in for a longer period of time.

Is this a problem that needed a solution or a solution that is now looking for a problem? This looks to me like some suits think they have found a way to make more money with an "untapped and unreachable market" Who benefits here other than the dorks providing the ads? I think gamers lose for sure. I don't see myself buying anything where I have to look at ads. Did the gaming indistry realize that games cost too much and they are going to sell advertising to greatly reduce or eliminate the cost to the customer? I doubt it.

It humors me that people on slashdot trash people who drive SUV's because they are fuel inefficient. And then we think it is really cool to roll our own routers, tivos, WAPs, etc using power sucking, off the shelf PC hardware rather than buy more power efficient dedicated devices. We never turn off our PC's and some of us run mini data centers out of our homes just because we can. And then we say SUV's waste precious resources. Yeah.

This whole thing is stupid. Say a New York City or San Francisco company saves money by outsourcing to Canada, a place where a housing isn't $400 a square foot and salaries are not inflated. They could probably get very similar savings if they oursourced to WVa or TN and be sung praises as heros for boosting local American economies. On the same note, west coast and east coast companies spending millions on leases for data centers could save millions by moving to America's heartland. Plus they could just leave the windows open in the colder months and reduce their electric bills for cooling. Ok, the last part is a stretch.

Security wise the Mac is great. The only problem I have with it is users don't have a choice. You get OS X and are forced to use iMovie and iTunes when there are some great third party apps out there that were around long before the Apple i counterparts yet Jobs doesn't tell you about them.

  13. What do you consider important on Does Your Company Pay For Broadband? · · Score: 1

If you have at your company's expense a blackberry, a cell phone, and a pager then there is definatly some waste. I would imagine that there are some people taking advantage of the broadband as well. If they take away all three of your gadgets and make you pay for some way to contact you then I think that is a bit extreme on their part. They should at least provide you with a pager if you are that important.

My company doesn't provide me with any way for them to contact me. They do the network guys, but us software guys have our own cell phones. Sadly mine doesn't work very well within a mile radius of my home, so I am forced to write more robust code so I don't need to be called.

It isn't up to the rest of the world to use their psychic powers to determine what might offend you. If someone is that freaking depressed then they should just turn off the damned radio and enjoy the silence.

Songs like Sunday Bloody Sunday have nothing to do with a Wednesday on September 11. And the Beatles recording of Obla Di, Obla Da damn sure has little to do with it. Too bad if some knucklehead gets a little offended. People like that need to grow some skin. Why the hell can't people be depressed anymore? It pisses me off that we have to drug ourselves or make everyone else change just so one sad dolt can get half a smile on his or her face. To hell with these people. Sit at the damned traffic light and cry if the song makes you sad. It is what we used to do in this country and dammit we liked it!!!
