I too have submitted this story, only to have it rejected. Goatse.cx has had the greatest social and programmatical effect on Slashdot.org of any domain, period. They even changed Slashcode itself on account of goatse.cx... and now goatse.cx is removed due to registrar censorship, an issue Slashdot and its users hold dear, and no one hears about it. It is improper to ignore such an event.
I had such high hopes that Florina and the DEC research lab would be smarter than this.

In my experience, this is not the case. I wrote a little rip-encode-and-tag script called choad and listed it on Freshmeat for the hell of it. This was two years ago, and I've received over 20 patches -- for a crappy little perl script!
I wrote it to solve my problem, and I continue to be pleasantly surprised when I get emails with feature enhancements, bug fixes, or just plain thanks and encouragement from people who had the same problem as me.
