    i have a three screen setup, two monitors, and a tv hookup. with my lirc remote control and a custom wxpython app for selecting files, i can easily change any setting i want, i could easily toss a linux/win2k capable card in and have a much more powerful digital vcr ( probably dedicate a seperate box to that, but the principle is there)

    we do need laws occasionally. but they need to be good thoughtout laws.

    There is nothing wrong with a law to prevent (and in this case companies) from doing certain things.

    The problem is that laws are used to "solve" everything.

    But they still can be applied properly when the time is taken to implement them the right way and for the right reasons

    my roommate for instance. He is not a geek, yet he is an excellent artist, and works a lot on videos, he is producing a series of videos throughout this year, 1 and 2 are done. 1 looks excellent, and 2 shows that he learned a lot in the process and looks great

    you can get the source code for the dll, it just returns different variables to check that it is intact, and should proceed

    thats the entire purpose of this pill, it may not be fundamental anymore.

    If (big if there), it is doing the chemical equiv of sleep in your body, then it is effectively SLEEP.

    i could computers of high quality, sell them for a $100 less then anyone else, i would be competitive, but i would be losing money.

    competition has two sides, ability to sell at a reasonable price in the market, and the ability to make a decent profit.

    the latter is where they had problems

    could be, but as the policy states, if he discussed it with someone else, he broke the policy. if he admitted to asking another student (not cheating, a normal question) the evidence would be that he admitted to breaking the policy.

    regardless of whether any dishonesty was involved.

    it's too bad that the ethanol is a horrible additive for fuel. Instead of the polution going into the air, it just goes into the water supply.

    not to mention the lower fuel effiency you get, the damage to your engine.

    talk about political donations being used by companies for their benefit. check the money trail on that one

    I wish i was in an industry that allowed me to blame any loss of sales on piracy. a lot may be due to piracy, but any decrease in sales is automatically because of piracy, not because they have been manufacturing absolute trash

    i personally havent seen any illegal ads for dianetics. Since I am reading the book now, i would be interested in seeing posted ads like that, tear them down and toss them out.

    and dianetics is a book that so called bilks you out of $8 (of course you are getting something material for that price), scientology on the other hand is just what you said.

    Its like claiming the Bible is bad because the KKK uses it. Or the koran is bad because extremist muslims use it.

    copying a cd for your car which is a permanent transfer of content is not illegal. a copy for your sister is also legal

    considering the majority of ads are used to pay for services. Tv would not be avail at the price your pay without ads, newspapers, magazines, the same.

    last time i checked, spam was not reducing my internet fees, they are raising it due to the large amount of bandwidth that is being wasted, the ISP has to pay for how many megs of absolute crap a year that no one wanted in the first place

    Why would they have to, they are selling their proprietary software on linux. they might have to release their linux source code, but really, thats not a big deal as that doesnt give away anything important. heres a stock linux kernel with standard software.

    Their software and drivers are not GPL. They only make use of other GPL software to run their software.

    they will rarely require. if a company doesnt have them, their rates are hiked way up.

    Insurance companies tend not to deny coverage to people (except the really bad drivers). they like to have people, and charge them A LOT

    you didnt vote for bush, that makes no difference, the AMERICAN system for presidency always has been electorial vote. thats how it works, more electors voted for Bush than Gore.

    i personally dont like the electorial system, never have. but thats how it was at the time of the 2000 election. it should have been changed a hundred years or more ago. it should have been changed in 1999, but it wasnt. it should be changed and i hope it will.

    interesting sideline. under bushs plan for vote counting, he would win by roughly 500 votes, under gores plan, bush would still win, but by 1000+ votes.
