Supporting Mandrake is great but in exchange for your money you expect to get something.
I don't send Microsoft money in support of Windows. If I buy Windows that is all the support Microsoft is going to get from me.
Microsoft would love it if people would pay them $60/year for Windows. Heck there are people who have used the same version of Windows for 4 years so that's a good $240 Microsoft could have collected already.
MS Didn't care about the GC because no one else did either.:) I have XBox and GC and rarely play the GC as there have been so few new games for it.
I do not think everybody should bitch at MS about this. If there wasn't a rule against what Sony was doing MS complaining wouldn't have had any impact.
If there was a rule and Sony decided to ignore it then they have to expect that they might pay the price for ignoring the rule.
I'm no windows lover but I can tell you I was seriously disappointed in OS/2. I bought in right up until OS/2 Warp and found it to be a painful experience.
Massive CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files and the GUI wasn't smooth running with multiple I/O queues like NT/XP/2000.
I agree. I would never consider contributing to the OSS movement if I knew I could be held liable and there is no reason I shouldn't be because I did it for free vs being paid. Linux will not be held to be above this process.
How is he going to get any better costs from Honday building it than he can otherwise? His major expenses are the computers and the gyros in the device. The article mentions that the gyros are aviation quality and that the CPU horsepower is comparable to three PC's. If you can get 3 PCs and those gyros for cheap I think you'll be well on your way to bringing the cost down.
I have 802.11b and an 2.4GHz video sending unit. Both are useless when the other is on. I don't think we are all ready to replace everything we have with new technology that shares the spectrum.
XBox isn't going to compete. The XBox isn't an MP3/MPG/DVD/whatever playback unit. It's a game machine that can rip songs soley for the purpose of playing in games. Microsoft doesn't want to turn it into an MP3 playing machine. With an 8GB drive you'd fill it up pretty fast.
To get the same functionality you will have to stick in Microsoft Windows for $200 and add a DVD player package for $20-$40. As much as I like Linux I haven't been the least bit impressed with DVD playback.
I know what autoresponse does. What it doesn't do is get them to read your e-mail one second sooner. Autoresponse e-mail other than letting you know their server is operational has no other value.
What good would an autoreponse be to your message? Do you think you are the only person who sent them mail? It takes a long time to get through all the mail they receive. I have received responses to issues I have e-mailed my congressman for a few months later at times.
Your congressman represents a lot more than just you and they aren't going to give your letter special treatment and get to it immediately.
But is it any more useful than a short range radio such as say "Bluetooth"? If you have to replace the balasts and you have to wire those to a network or some other device to generate the data then you have already done about as much as you could do with bluetooth and bluetooth would work even if you had it in your bag. No line of sight required.
Before you go to the effort and expense of putting something like this together maybe you should figure out if you are even going to have an audience. I doubt that live pictures will be necessary even for those interested in seeing the pictures. Just capture pictures and save them then upload them toa server later. Just because it can be done doesn't mean it should be done.
It might be cheap to print something someone else already designed but it won't be cheap to design these systems and that is why it won't be freely downloadable. Why would anyone spend tons of money designing something that others will want to take and use for really cheap or free?
I think that they are waiting for the standards to settle with regards to connecting settop boxes to the TV and the prices to fall.
Mandrake 8.2 could not run Opera from earlier versions of Linux because of a library incompatibility.
Microsoft wants to control the console market just about as badly as Sony does. Sony is no better than Microsoft in any way.
I love the radio show and the books but find the TV shows to be too slow paced compared to the radio show and a bit boring because of the pacing.
It's not $5 it's 12 months at $5 each so $60.
I think people do mind paying $400 for Office.

I used an Amiga for years but I can not fathom why people are still using them or excited about a new one

I'd hate to be responsible for ZLib.
With all the support behind Linux and all the demand for Linux games the premier company producing these very games goes bust.
This companies problems making money selling Linux products will definately make other companies setup and take notice.

I'd rather have the ads that pay that much.
