Are you kidding? This is the worst vaporware announcement I have ever seen. They can't even keep their webservers up. If some no-name startup can come out of nowhere and build what is described as 10 times more complete and complicated than anything I have ever seen before, I tend to think it is complete bullshit.
If things like this exist, they dont magically ship completely formed. You hear about them for a while and then they slowly add features and scale up. From what I can tell from the google cache, there is not a single reputable technology person in the company, only a nobody CEO.
According to his bio, he was previously a director at "RxRemedy" which apparently no longer exists. In fact that company was under investigation by the SEC according to a simple google search. Here is a link to the SEC investigation into the company that my google search for RxRemedy turned up: http://www.sec.gov/litigation/complaints/comp17650 .htm (in the document, search for RxRemedy) So let's see, his only listed previous company was investigated for investor fraud.
What a freaking joke. This man probably belongs in prison.
I am amazed that slashdot would put vaporware garbage like this on their front page.
Why does everyone want to push more and more into the browser. Granted xforms is better than what we currently have, but when did we decide to forgo desktop apps?
<half joking>Are programmers so lazy now that they are only willing/able to write webapps?</half joking>
I guess when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
The web is good at a lot of things. Some things, like word processors, (IMHO) it is not suited for. Just because you CAN do it doesn't mean you SHOULD.
Anyone remember the MTV promo ads that ran in the mid-90s with the tag line "MTV keeps you plugged in?"
One of the ads featured a performance artist who held a power drill up to a microphone while repeating the phrase "the revolution will not be televised."
Thus the expression became seared into my 14-year old mind right alongside Nirvana and Bush videos etc.
Please see CS248 . The final project of the class is to make a video game. I went to the showing last year, and the games kicked ass. There were people from the game industry that came to judge the final product, they recruited people pretty heavily if I recall correctly.
They are going to "reconsider" selling the xbox? They need every possible market to sell this money-loser. It would be stupid to lock out a whole market of potential buyers. Are they going to sit back and let Sony and Nintendo take over? If this were true, Sony would want to lose this modchip case, it would end up helping them in the end.
I just don't buy it.
This is a prime example of when someone should call Microsoft's bluff.
I agree that the applications seem pretty lame right now, but J2ME is coming to cellphones in the US. (Motorola SDK link)http://www.wirelessdevnet.com/columns/oct2000/mobdev13.html
If we combine better hardware(screen resolution, cost), J2ME (large developer pool), and broadband, I think someone can cook up a worthwhile application that people will want to use.

Hahaha, that is awesome!
Mod parent up!
"Itanic" is the name that TheRegister.co.uk uses to refer to the Itanium.
They also call Intel "Chipzilla" and AMD "Chimpzilla" I believe.
Those cheeky Brits.

Damn I am on-topic.
