Sure I'd be willing to sign a contract accepting all legal responsibilty for problem arising from my code, but the price of my software would go up %2000, and the time to deliver would jump too. If I'm signing a contract like that, I'm going to make damn sure it's as bug free as possible. If you look at embedded software (stuff used in planes and medical equipment, etc), they probably have similar contracts, because people will die if the software fails.
If people that kind of quality from boxed software, they have to be willing to pay for it, and unless lives are at stake (or millions of dollars), they're generally not.
Some pictures would be worth way more than that. Think of the picture of the south vietnamese general executing the captured vc fighter during the tet offensive, that changed the American public's perception of the whole war... Many journalists would gladly give up a 10k camera to get photos of the inside of a North Korean political prison camp, or something along those lines.
Hell, the pyramids and Stonehenge have been standing for 2-3000 years. Barring significant geological forces (or human action), there's no reason they couldn't stand another 3-10,000.
That's a great idea! We'll just put the waste in the pyramids, and hire some security to take out the inevitable radioactive mummies! Pure genius.

Just record the random data, then as long as i have some idea of when you wrote the message, i'll just brute force it (if he encrypted it at 12:00 would it work, if not, 12:01, etc..)
Even if the data changed every ns it still wouldn't be very secure (assuming i have access to the sat signal)
As long as the battery life is decent, I want one. Screw the Starck mouse... This sounds like it should be great for games.
Would there be much difference in power draw between an led and a laser? I realize they must have some pretty low power lasers (like in a discman); how powerful of a laser would you need to be able to track movement like this?
I think I remember reading that around 80% of the money spent on health care in the US is during the last six months of life.
That's like saying that most skiing accidents happen on the last run of the day. Yeah they do, it was the last run of the day because the person got injured and couldn't keep skiing.
And a reactor capable of producing a few megawatts could drive a high-power laser, and the craft could use pure light pressure to propel itself: no propellant required. Of course, this depends on how light you can make the craft, because even 100 megawatts of power will only produce 0.33 newtons of thrust:-)
Just don't try to back into a parking space with that thing....
Read up on Agile.
As a programmer I have felt the most empowered, gotten the most enjoyment, and positive feedback, by working in an Agile scrum team.
I second this; the agile process works quite well. If you're new to the process, attend a scrum master course.
It emphasizes transparency and makes problems apparent much earlier than traditional processes.

Dude, I know _exactly_ how you feel. Weird, i could have written that word for word and it would all be true.

All I can say is, screw that, I'll just go back to getting my music for free...
When I first read the headline I thought to myself "Man, this DRM crap is really getting out of hand..."
I've always thought that slashdot should hold an obfuscated english contest...
You're forgetting about the matter that goes into the reaction...

If the the people from other cultures really belive that they shouldn't be looking at something, it wouldn't need to be censored.
I'm betting there aren't many processors that can address that much memory.
