    on the plus side, it looks like you guys have some minimalistic kind of health insurance now? Although I wouldn't bet my money on that being something significant either...

    This is not true at all, I have an iPad (and it's the only device from Apple I own). I could throw it out the window tomorrow and buy an android or a Surface.
    I do everything online, with apps only giving me a better view to the online content:
    - feed reader
    - evernote
    - mail
    - maps
    All of these are replacable by either a mobile website, or an application on android or windows that does the same.
    Some games I might miss, yeah, but that's not a deal breaker...
    The only cost for me to get out of the eco system, is the same as getting in: just buying another tablet.

    That being said, I like the apple hardware, it can take a punch, and is very stable. unlike the android devices I've owned.
    I do own a WP7 but have sworn not to give MS a cent again, after they told me my top of the line hardware will not be receiving an update merely 2 weeks after I bought it. For a gadget freak and early adopter, this is a serious kick in the head.

    Good for lenovo, and it's workers.

    Still not buying a laptop from them though:
    - I dont want a touchscreen on my laptop (on the plus side, they still offer win7)
    - Im not buying a 2000 euro X1 with a resolution of only 1200x900....

    Why do phones have higher resolutions then laptops these days???

    If I send an email to a gmail account, from a non gmail account, I did not agree to anything. Still they scan my message, and probably keep, use or sell the info they harvested.

    And why would it be OK for your crappy gov agency to spy on me, and not on you, just because there is a sea in between us?

    I'm really getting fed up with Americans going crazy over the fact that their government is spying on american citizens... They shouldn't spy on anybody without a very good reason to do so....

    But if you want (and dont morraly oppose) your tax dollars to be spent on watching every piece of meat with 2 eyes and an evolved vocal capability as long as it isn't part of this piece of stone and water you call "the land of the free", you've got bigger problems imho

    I think it has more to do with free choice. you choose what you want to give to whom.
    the gov just steals the data, and you have absolutely no control over what data it steals.

    I don't believe the hardware was on par with the competition.
    It was bulky and heavy, and the battery did not even make it through the day. an iPad can go nearly a week with more then regular use...

    and the hardware did not support the correct software: a true win 8

    That's what happened with the win7 phones, they sold them dirt cheap after all the early adopters bought them for full price.
    Now all the early adopters will never by a moble windows product again, including the surface.

    I bought a lumia, for more then 400 euros, and 2 weeks later they:
    - told me it would not be able to upgrade to win 8
    - slashed the price in half, if not more

    now why on earth would I go and buy another product with a microsoft label again? right, I wouldn't, I didn't and I'm pretty sure I won't for quite some time...
