Only on/. would the gp's post NOT be considered flamebait and calling someone out for taking a discussion about whether a new OS from MS would handle games well or not and trying to turn it into Yet Another MS Bashfest based on a simple "I Won't Be Using It" statement as if it is gospel and has ANYTHING to do with the discussion WHATSOEVER wouldn't be flamebait.
Go ahead, mod into oblivion, I know you want to. Enjoy.
Maybe if you would stick to stating your opinion and not condemn others for not sharing the same opinion as yourself.
But you don't, which is your right. However, it's my right to call you on that. Interesting how it works both ways isn't it?
How many names did you call me there? And yet you label me a troll? Righto, carry on then dickweed.

What a perfectly timely dig at MS there! How witty! I bow at your superior intellect! Your ability to slam MS in a way completely unattached to the article, but to do so in such a way as for it to be entirely on topic is commendable...NOT.
A troll that was not. I don't believe the GP was suggesting that's the way it _should_ be, by any means. It was simply a statement that shows what kind of thought process is required to come up with an idea like this!
It's a very interesting topic. I too love the idea. Auto balanced gameplay. It's a revolutionary idea in gaming really.
Unfortunately, look at the flak that Oblivion is getting for just that. For me, it's one of the single best features of the game, and not once have I heard a cohesive reasonable argument against it, but yet a staggering number of people can't stand it. One of the hottest mods for Oblivion does nothing more than completely remove that feature from the game.
Even better, in a linear FPS, the arguments being used against this feature in oblivion have absolutely ZERO basis, so I really hope this takes off in the fps genre.
(One of the biggest arguments against this in Oblivion is that it destroys replayability. This is complete bullshit for a couple of reasons. A) You'll NEVER find the exact same things at the exact same place, unless you play through the entirety of the game 100% identically to how you did the first time...and even then there's the RNG. And more importantly b) THE GAME HAS OVER 200 FREAKING HOURS OF GAMEPLAY!!! Who NEEDS to replay it? Anyways, as you can see this is completely irrelevant to something like SiN, short of being indicators that this is the kind of feature that can actually make a linear FPS replayable at all! What FPS have you ever played that was really replayable short of nostalgic value?)
So you're not a fan of the FPS. This game wasn't made for you. They even state so. They make no bones about it. This is not about redefining gaming, let alone the genre.
But you know that, you just like listening to the sound of your own voice don't you?
I played HL2. I purchased it via Steam. My bank account was drained. My house was transferred into someone elses name. I get a million spam messages a day. I get sex line callback charges on my phone constantly. My identity was used to assassinate the president. I've developed rectal cancer and my eyes are falling out of their sockets...
Oh, wait, that wasn't me. That was the other guy that didn't listen to you. No? Didn't happen to him either?
That's right! I downloaded it effortlessly, patched it effortlessly, had a BLAST playing it, and have been enjoying additional features and the like via steam ever since. Hmm, must be just me, that evil corp must have just forgotten to screw me this time...I'll be sure to drop them a line to let them know I'm all bent over and waiting for it.
This is not a public service. Do whatever you think is right, but shut up already with the constant spewing of crap if you wouldn't mind. A company actually manages to do something innovative and value adding, and all people like you can do is scream foul.
Here's a hint: They've never heard of you. Even if they had, they don't give a flying fuck about you, you aren't even a customer, so fuck off already and quit shitting in my yard.
I know, you just want a long corridor with bright lights and a row of 10 000 various monsters to hack your way through.
The only reason flashlights are a staple is because whiny gamers want the 'easy' way, for the most part.
I love how HL handles this, lighting is a HUGE gameplay element. Sure, they COULD give you a permanent high discharge spotlight, but where's the CHALLENGE and FUN in that?
Maybe this would be a good standard cheat for you pussies that just can't help the ole ~/god key combos, but for me, I'd rather be challenged.
Not to say that lighting and flashlights are not handled badly, or even horribly in some games. But when done correctly...I personally prefer no personal lighting and really like this idea in Sin.
Who the hell modded that Troll? That is simply pathetic.
Can anyone come up with ANY explanation that would show how that post is a Troll in any light? Who DOESN'T want Sony to refute the $600 price?
That's the one thing I truly dislike about slash, you can't get at idiot mods at all. Yes, meta-mod provides a level of checks and balances, but in certain cases one should absolutely be able to argue someones mod.
While you're right, I am quite concerned at what point of view you chose to take, and that your post immediately rose to the top.
So you're suggesting that taxes such as this would be a good thing if the mechanics of collecting them were all in place to do so in an accountable fashion? Whether you intend it or not, you're arguing the wrong points, and by doing so are actually promoting this idea.
Well, that's not really what's suggested. They state that the fees are to offset the governments general defecit, spam reduction would simply be a spin they might put on it to try to make the pill easier for you to swallow.
As for your idea about controlling spam though, I've always thought the way it should work is like this:
1) Do you mind if I contact you via this channel? 2) Nope, not if you mind paying me $x.xx every time you do so. 3) [Latest advert] [$x.xx] in MY bank account
Lets just hope our populous is ignorant enough to swallow it and realize we're actually levying an excessive tax on something that has ZERO cost to the government in the first place.
But hey, money's money right? I should bring this idea up in the Canadian Parliament, lets get them to impose a tax on every page view on the internet. Not only will we be out of debt in no time, we'll be rich Rich RICH!!!
Oh the fallacies and deceit sitting on a pile of incompetence and idiocy!
I'm not really solidly on either side of the fence, there are problems both ways. There's reality for you;)
Police are not an industry no, but that's kind of the point. What's been suggested is that a person, even if convicted of illegal activity in a particular industry, should not be barred from working in that industry. That doesn't make complete sense to me.
People do things, corporations do not. Period. The idea that people can get away with doing bad things by hiding behind a corporate veil simply disgusts me. Unfortunately, it happens every single day. In fact, you could pretty much say it's part of the American Dream.
You stated that this would be unreasonable punishment if they weren't convicted of a crime, that is precisely what you stated. Which is very strange since what was proposed is a punishment that could be levied in just such a case.
Of course it would be wrong to bar people from jobs in certain industries for no reason. But the idea of preventing someone convicted of a crime from doing so again, where's the problem?
Let's put it in some perspective via an example: Should a cop that abuses his power and is convicted of doing so to commit a crime be able to continue being a cop? Why shouldn't an executive convicted of something like fraud on a large scale be barred from continuing to do business in the industry they purported the crime in in the first place? Wow, a punishment that fits the crime, how novel.
Maybe that is what YOU would like to see in the world, but pull your head out of your ass, that's shit up there, not reality you know.
MY 'state' looks after a number of basic needs, and MY 'state' is easily a happier, healthier, and wealthier state than your 'fuck em all' 'state'. You keep your 'state' mmkay? Preferrably FAR away from myself and everyone else out there...maybe over by the rest of your imaginary friends.
However, on this monitor, damned the AA, HDR is much more impressive @ 1920x1200 on a 23" vs AA. Stylistically as well, AA isn't really missed at all.
I feel for you, I remember the college days. Actually, I blew a chunk of my student loan on a VooDooII sli rig at the time...that was leet for about 5 minutes;) Thankfully, things aren't quite so drastic in the gfx world anymore. I can reasonably guarantee that I will be able to play any PC game that comes out in the next few years, maybe not with full settings, but I'll be able to play them.
I remember when Quake III came out, it required a new gfx card, everything before that gen was immediately rendered completely useless. That's when I took a long hiatus from PC gaming, at least, leading edge 3D stuff anyways, in favor of the consoles. Now that consoles all just want to be PC's and the feature requirements of gfx have stabilized and matured reasonably, it's getting safer to pay for PC gaming rigs again.
Who the FUCK in their right mind would call the PS2 a media centre? You jump to a lot of interesting conclusions, you fucking mindless useless waste of meat. Please, put yourself out of your misery as soon as you can would you?
Flamebait? Hardly.

FUD FUD AND FUD.
NO one is forcing you to do ANYTHING against your will. Who put the damned gun to your head and asked for any info at all?
Don't like it? Then tell them to fuck off by NOT PARTICIPATING.
Want to have your cake and eat it too? Too fucking bad.
However, if the game interests you, and you're not a paranoid FUD spewing attention seeking tool, then please, shut it and go play the game.

You so missed my point.
Take a particularly violent episode of GIJoe on TV. Now redoit live action. Now put it in a comic. Now put it into a pure text story.
The media changes, but has ZERO impact on the violence presented...the content.
See my point?
It's not the media (cartoons, games, live action movies whatever), it's what is presented using that media.
While you're right, I am quite concerned at what point of view you chose to take, and that your post immediately rose to the top.

Yes, Yes, and lets hope so but I wouldn't put it past them.
This is a government body we're talking about here, thus there is no direct correlation between the logic involved and the actions that will be taken.
I think that it is quite obvious that the intent is you'll be getting it at both ends ;)
Money growing on Trees!
Lets just hope our populous is ignorant enough to swallow it and realize we're actually levying an excessive tax on something that has ZERO cost to the government in the first place.

The proposal you're arguing against was a suggested Punishment to be levied once Convicted of a crime...what are you arguing for?
I see your lips moving but I can't understand what you're saying!
Please, slow down, spell check, and proof read!
Say WHAT? What kind of crack are you smoking?

Trademarks, my god, I so don't want to go here because it's just common sense, but not even a little bit of it is applied.
Web 2.0. EVERYONE know's what that means, it's just completely generic.
It's version 2 of the Web.
What is the Web? Not something you can trademark that's for sure.
But ok, it's not really about that, it's about trademarking the name of a convention or trade show.
So what? Why is that any different?
I can't trademark Hamburger, and I shouldn't be able to for ANY reason. It's a freaking WORD with MEANING, not a name.
Sorry, I just really hate what lawyers have done to our society, this is pathetic.
Unfortunately, it's HDR or AA.
