In other words, find a trans-democratic process to ham-fist the opinion of the experts down to the people who are funding it (i.e. tax payers and voters)?

You can tell that JJ Abrams gets this because in the trailer he explicitly and unapologetically confronts the viewer as an individual. "You have that power too".
The original trilogy gets a lot of attention because of flashy swords and space dog fights, but it really establishes the inward authority of the franchise.

It sounds like French people are faced with a choice to either allow refugees who running around killing people or some assertions that they aren't polluting discourse.

The honest truth is Bernie and Hillary take this guy seriously because he can get votes.
He may not be getting votes because he is a good candidate, but he isn't expecting the US electorate to just capitulate on everything.
I have misgivings about the way Trump treated Megan Kelly, but, in general, berating and belittling reporters (who go onto their JournoLists to get their guy in office) is far better than they deserve.
Well, it is kinda helpful. For example, if you want to keep your party in power, you can put all the opposition leaders on the no fly list and then connect that to owning property, income caps, running for office, etc.
DHS is already falling behind the IRS who is guiding the process by asking organizations to list out what their beliefs and prayers are and applying basic screening methods (like political alignment with the administration).
This is just the government helping us to have correct political opinions. Try to give them some credit !
