I use to go along with the, Extraordinary ideas require extraordinary proof notion in connection with actions in the public eye.
Then the Apartheid system in South Africa collapsed and for a brief moment in time we could see through the "smoke and mirrors" to see the workings of a modern state's spook aparatus.

Conversely sometimes a "Founding Father" has had the time to let it all settle into his brain and produce a concise and clear book that leaves one banging the desk yelling "Why aren't ALL Math/Science books like this!"
For example, "Richard W. Hamming. Coding and Information Theory."
E.T.Jaynes Probability as Extended Logic is a wonder as well. Rip out all those stuffed shirt probability theorists out of the universities and replace them "Probability as Extended Logic" and the world will be a _much_ better place.

ie. Workout the encoding for the hidden fields and tweak them to freak out any automated processing software the spammers use.
A similar idea is to feed carefully crafted cookies to web servers to crack them.
For example, I would guess that the spammers spam each newsgroup / discussion list with a slightly different URL, the URL goes exactly the same place but records which spam campaign produced the best results.
Now tweak that URL in crafty ways and you may DoS their server.
Online gamers are living a virtual life because they don't have a real one.
Imagine it! COUCH POTATOES OF AMERICA UNITE!
Trouble is the only issue that will motivate them sufficiently to protest is if they disagree with the judges on American Idol. Even then the limit of the protest will be to change channel....
The whole point about virtual lives is there is always another available at a push of a button.

I have been collecting them as I spot them, when I have enough samples and enough time I will have a bash at decrypting them.
So if you want to add a flourish to your thesis, you can also figure out what they are using the encrypted text for. (Probably some sort of tracking to measure success of campaigns.) I will happily send you my collection of spam + encrypted messages.
It did occurred to me that if you were a distributed illegal group that wanted to communicate in a way that was untracable from you to the component cells, you could do worse than sending out spam + encrypted message to millions of random addresses, some of which are your cells.
Strange. Most Russians I have met say that living in Communist Russian was hell. But quite a lot better than living in the Capitalist Russia they have now.
