No, Windows Update does not detect my install of Visual Studio, nor my installation of SQL Server, nor my Visio installation. As I browse through the downloads section for w2k I find an update I haven't been informed of (even though I check Windows Update every day). So, no! Windows Update does NOT automatically detect what software my computer needs.

    Well.. Almost.
I bought this one from my local IBM dealer last fall along with my ThinkPad.
I put everything in it wherever I go, my Thinkpad, charger, external mouse (playing CS with the nipple is hard!), along with a wireless pcmcia ethernet card, some extra cables, CDs and a few books. It also features a "wallet" of some sort for my GSMphone on one of the shoulder straps (you can remove it or put it on the other strap of course).
It's all in all a very good case and I've recommended it to everybody looking for a carry-all.

Not if you don't want to. OK, granted. ASP is OK for people who don't know the first thing about dynamic content. It only takes a couple of days for a newbie to get productive (that's how it was in my case anyway). HOWEVER... as weeks and months went by I came to realize how crippled ASP is, for instance it doesn't come (de facto) with an easy and comprehendable way of saving uploaded files, I did not find a way to use a special mailserver to send emails. Granted this is mostly because of how NT Server is set up, but it's an annoyance. And how do we deal with these annoyances? The easiest and most common way of doing things was to purchase 3rd party components that helped make this easier. And when you do that you have to worry about licenses and it all ends up being a pain in the ass, and of course in the end you blame ASP for being such a piece of crap. --- I know my english is bad, I'm hung over.

  16. Re:ASP?? on PHP, Perl, Java Servlets - What's Right For You? · · Score: 1

more components? In order to get the least bit productive in ASP you'll need a few THIRD party components (for which support isn't always all that great, not to mention licensing complications). So, NO ASP does NOT have more components than say php or perl.
