    Other than university textbooks, I don't think I've ever sold back a book. I donated some to the local library once, but ended up buying most of them back at the annual book sale a few years later.

    Books were probably the third form of electronic copyright violation, after software and bitmaps of naked people. Way before music, video, or even the public internet.

    And "swarming"? I suppose that is an effective response, sucking up CPU by making meaningless copies of itself will keep the virus from doing much. But I'd rather remove the malware.

    What is hidden in the subtext is a public announcement that "if you don't have your receipt, we're keeping any money you put down, even though we have our own records showing we owe you money or a game"

    Indeed, if they just carried everything that sparkfun has and charged a 50% markup, I'd probably buy it just so I can have it right then and don't have to come up with a bunch of other items to make the shipping worth it.

    I'd probably still gripe about the 50% markup, but I'd buy it.

    being able to "see infrared"?

    near/short infrared(0.75-3 m) is the kind of light used in remotes and cameras that only need filters Vs. mid/long infrared(3–15 m) which heat-seeking missiles and cameras that need cooling use.

    If you are just a contractor, you should have negotiated for for a decent rate up front and then offered a lower rate in exchange for equity. If you gave them a lower price because they were small, but didn't ask for equity then, you can either renegotiate or walk away. They might prefer to stick with you instead of finding someone new.

    Good luck, though. They might feel that just because they are suddenly making more money, it doesn't mean they owe you a piece and the same fee.

    My first formal programming class involved pencil, paper, and a flowchart template. Surely even the poorest student can find a patch of dirt and a stick.

    Nowadays, you can get a computer for nearly free, perhaps with some sweat equity, or failing that access to an IDE inside a browser in a library. If a modern day student in a 1st world country doesn't have enough drive to do at least pencil and paper programming and type it in maybe once a month at the library, computers aren't their passion.

    Depends on your usage. If you don't want to be able to buy books on the go, get the wifi version. Otherwise get the cell version.

    If you want the wifi version and $139 is too much but $114 makes a huge difference and you don't mind the ads, get the ad supported wifi version.

    If you really really need to view large images or can't stand scrolling back and forth over a PDF, get the DX.

    Why would anyone ever deposit bitcoins in a bank? You don't need a checking account to use bitcoins, nor an ATM. There are no physical bitcoins, so you don't need a vault to store them. The only reason to give them to a bank would be explicitly invest in the loan side of the bank, and then you are speculating and should be aware that you may lose everything if somebody defaults on their loan.

    Bitcoin, if successful, eliminates the need for banks, except as a third party clearing house for loan activity.

    And that's why the car will use radar/optical sensors to detect the car and brake anyway, because when a dishwasher falls off a badly loaded truck, it doesn't transmit a "oh shit, I'm in the way" signal.

    Indeed, it is important to note that the "inventor" of this patent will receive zilch and the current rightsholder isn't producing anything of value with it, just makework for legal assistants.

    Longer term limits can help focus on long term goals without pandering to short term fads, as they don't have to worry about being elected every two years. That's why we have a mix of long and short term congresscritters. Somewhat the same with the houses of lords/commons in the UK.

    It'd be awesome if companies would just put the script they give the guys in Hyderabad on the web so I can read through it myself.

    That would help me avoid calling, as well as plan my responses when I do call to minimize the time to reach somebody who has actually used the product.

    I thought the main reason Google had taken to distributing flash with Chrome was so they could sandbox it better than the regular shared version of flash the other browsers use? And better keep it up to date, as well, but mainly the former.

    I guess I was mistaken.
