I am one of those people that don't believe the internet should be dumbed down to the lowest-common-denominator. Look at linux, linux is primarily coded for and used by a percentage of the population that is generally tech savy (programmers, administrators, politicians... heheh j/k).
I have the bandwidth and want more broadband content. I like the full-motion video for free from ESPN.com and I like watching long pr0n movies for free streamed from NeoX3.com. Full-motion video advertising is the future of the 'net. The 'net will soon be an On-Demand T.V. type service for the large sites. Most sites will continue to use banners or paypal donations to suport their content, and the big boys will use full-motion video.
Heh, first we come out with free pr0n with 15s commercials, and now these bastards are copying us:-P No biggie though, unlike us they don't have any content worth watching for putting up with the commercials.
I bet you will be seeing a lot more sites with full-motion video on their sites. The cheaper and more pervasive broadband gets (and the better the compression schemes get), the more the Internet will turn into On-Demand T.V. Our site is no different than an On-Demand Adult NBC, and we've received a ton of positive feedback both from our very satisfied customers and our very satisfied advertisers.
As long as a site has good content, visitors don't mind watching the short commercials, and the advertisers love it (3-5% min CTR).
The site I'm working for now NeoX3.com is already doing that. Insted of people paying for adult entertainment, they watch a 15s movie before the feature. We're able to give higher quality and quantity and advertisers are happy because they have a captive audience. Its really not that bad... it works for Network TV.

Many children are kidnapped from their legal guardians then tricked (i.e.: brainwashed) into believing that their parents don't want them or are dead or something like that. It usually happens in families where one parent has custody and the other parent would do anything to be with their child... (i.e. kidnap them).
That's just great, I don't think there is a more annoying thing when dual-booting than not to be able to share files between the goddamn installations. Hopefully with this, each OS won't feel like it's on a different part of the goddamn universe.
BTW How did people get around this issue before Read/Write access to NTFS? Did they have a FAT32 partition or something that both of the OS installations shared? I never took too much time to look into it because it wasn't too much of a problem for me.

Technically I see no reason why this can't be true, since the time span is so long between mass extinctions (not like the dinosaurs one but more like the one described in this article where almost all life is destroyed), that any evidence of a previous civilization or life forms would eventually degrade into basic elements.
Like I said in an earlier post... the game is FULL of content... you can do just about everything in the game. There's not only smithing which you can make everything from a Bronze Ingot to Full fledged armor and weapons, but there is leather craft, fishing, bone craft, food preperation, gold smithing... all all sorts of stuff... The ammount of items in the game is staggering... there's not much per level in terms of weapons and armor (you'll see the same armor on many people)... but there are TONS of items that are dropable or makeable.
I definitely think you'd like it since 5 of my other friends who usually don't touch MMORPGs seem to love it.
Actually I think the name helps at first but what will keep people actually subscribing is that its a solid game. I have atleast 5 friends that never buy MMORPGs but after watching me play and playing a bit at my house, they went out and bought it. The game is as deep or as shallow as you want it to be. Heh, I just spent like 3 hours at the goddamn auction house the other day. I managed to buy all new armor and sell a lot of stuff I had stored at my mog-house.
To tell you the truth, I like being part of the/. community, but it sucks when you mention it to other people and they're like... "Ohh those arrogant *NIX zealot pricks." I know that therer are people like that on/., I'd just rather not care to pay attention to it. I just don't like some dimwit bash me for using a perfectly correct term. Just like others have noted, job postings where they ask for 4-5 years experience with C# or.NET Framework. These are sooo common these days, I guess hiring managers don't really know what technology they're actually hiring for. I'm sure they just take their experience from other job postings (5+ experience C++ programming) and apply it to whatever the management tell him they need (a C# programmer).
Ofcourse jobs that ask one to know everything under the sun are completely off base, but I think there are people who give the managers the impression that a person can know all the software they put on the list. I'm sure this is just exposure to individuals to never say they can't handle something dealing with technology.
I feel I've always been someone like that. Someone that never says "No, I can't do that" and always says "Sure, I'll figure it out in a few minutes.". I've worked at plenty of jobs doing tech work and programming where I've had to learn something over night or at work that day to use in my job.

Power user refers to someone who uses their computer for work and usually maxes out it's potential. A Power User does not just surf the web and write email, they write software, manage other PCs, etc.

Right. I figured that from the last post. I didn't think of doing that. Like I was saying, no where in the control panel does it say "Edit this file for startup programs". Thats the kind of problems I was talking about.
Heh, well I most certainly do think of myself as a power user. I was pointing out problems in the configuration part of Mandrake. I wish there was a part of the configuration that allowed me to edit the commands that were run on startup. Sort of like the editing the autoexec.bat on Windows systems.
I installed Mandrake because I am a NEWBIE at *NIX. I have maintained *NIX Webservers and have developed lots of websites on *NIX servers but I had never run a windowing system on a *NIX box.
I run Debian and I love it for my web servers but I haven't been very successful at setting up all the neccessary components for a desktop OS. Things like setting up CUPS, fonts, etc...
As a "power-user" I really don't like how Mandrake hides so many settings from me. Like I installed Mandrake on a laptop with a USB Network dongle and I needed for Mandrake to wait until the laptop had loaded the drivers for USB before doing the network settings. I could not figure it out though! No where in the settings could I tell it to wait and tell it when to set up the network. Each bootup I had to go back into the CLI and type in ifdown eth0, ifup eth0 in order to get my network up.
Its just little things like that, that need to be ironed out of Mandrake and I think it'll be a great OS. As a Windows user, I sort of expect stupid crap like that to work correctly. I love the power *nix OS's give me, but I'd rather not have to deal with these silly configuration issues. I think thats the biggest drawback with Mandrake and all other Desktop *NIX's. When dealing with server software like Apache, PHP, MySQL, Perl, etc... everything seems to work together seamlessly, but in the Desktop... it feels like each piece of software is in a different universe.
I believe the "so-called" part is from the manufacturer not sticking to design specs and also having bad code implementing what they did design that caused the CD-ROM firmware to be scrambled when a particular "Flush" command was sent to the drive.
Lets not just the gun here and lets let the director decide whats important and makes the movie coherent and what doesn't. Sure the Sauraman scene might've been important in the books but these are not the books. Lots of things have changed from the books to the movies and people have to realize that this is a different medium and that usually, content that was presented one way in one medium does not translate to another medium without changes. Anyway, this won't stop anybody from going to see this movie so its pretty much a moot point.
I just started building a File Server for all of the Raw Data for this site. Except my budget is a little less than theirs. I was planning on building a 1TB Raid 1 system 1.... 500GIG on onboard RAID Controller, 500GIG on PCI Raid controller. I am going to put a low end Athlon XP and a decent Mobo with prolly 256 DDR. Also I'm putting in 2 Gigabit Ethernet cards so our editors can have access to them quickly.
I still don't know if we need Tape Backup because if we lose a movie, we still have the actual DV tapes, so I guess thats a good enough Tape Backup.
Wtf did you not read the fact that there is no SPAM on the site and we don't spam. I only promote it because I built it and am proud of it. It's truly a new idea. People post links to what they do all the time like the autopr0n guy.
Hah strangely I joined up with this company because they WEREN'T spamming. There are no pop-ups on the site, there are very few ads. What we offer is unlike anything else on the web. We offer 5 minute long clips supported by only 15 sec of commercial and a banner!
There's nothing wrong with porn. We're not annoying anyone or using anyone's bandwidth unfairly. We don't have popups or any crap like that. We just offer lots and lots of 5min movies for free.
