But what about initiating a reset and intercepting the email and then performing the reset yourself. The procedure is still not safe from the Man in the Middle attack.

Any time your data can be sniffed you are in danger. This isn't an issue specific to any OS or software manufacturer. Sure, there are things we can do to limit the damages such as releasing bug free software (maybe in 3014) but until then we either live with the consequences or encrypt all network data except broadcasts intended for everyone to see.

On the down side, encrypting everything limits debugging of the data and increases overhead on both the line and the processors involved.

You don't get this anywhere from any product manufacturer. If you want continuous updates you have to pay for a subscription. That's how many software and hardware packages work.

At the end of the day there is a cost to providing up to date software on legacy devices. Unless you are willing to pay a subscription fee for a group of developer to continue moving the software forward, I don't see one company that will do this for free.

This is one of the reasons why many tech users rave about the Android phones. They can be modified to work and as long as there's a few goofs out there willing to make it work, you'll have updates. But again, that's specific to the geeks who can figure it out. Don't expect my mom or dad to do this even if they do own an android device.

You deter robberies and other petty crimes with guns but the US has 3 times more deaths per capita than Canada. Instead of buying 5 000 000 guns per year the US should increase it's taxes and put it back in the system where it's needed. This being health care, social programs and jobs. As far as I know there are still many jobs out there that pay well but manufacturing is not one of them due to the direct competition with China. I worked for a manufacturer and we manufacture 100% in North America. Unfortunately we are starting to purchase more parts from China because our competitors are undercutting us. I can see our high volume products eventually be 100% manufactured in China if this trend continues.

Next time you buy something at a big box store, at least buy the one assembled in NA if there is one available. That 5% more you pay at least stays here and indirectly helps you.

The good news is that over the next 20 years the economies should equalize (I hope). This could bring back jobs here.
