"The device appears to have been put into service considerably earlier than had been projected by the Air Force as recently as February.

At that time, a long-range planning document, dubbed the Transformation Flight Plan, said such a system would let the United States by 2010 "deny and disrupt an adversary's space-based communications and early warning" of attack."

That's the way to beat the enemy to the punch - make them think you're 5+ years away from ready, then DEPLOY!

  10. Re:Who does OBL want in power? on Pre-Election Discussion · · Score: 1

Now that the question has been modded as flamebait, will this even get read?

    Well, my thoughts on this:

Kerry has said many times that one of the biggest mistakes Bush has made is to divert our forces from the search for OBL and Al-Queda. This strongly implies (to me at least) that one of his top priorities if he wins is to get the hell out of Iraq as fast as possible and re-deploy/re-task our troops back to hunting OBL.

Personally, I think he underestimates what Bush will be doing if re-elected.

I agree with everything you've said here. It is too bad that "the system" has ground her down to the point that she is unwilling to continue in it. I'm willing to bet that we lose many good teachers this way.

While I'd love to be able to check on my kids' progress (our school's ability to communicate with parents leaves MUCH to be desired), I like this for another reason.

Teachers today have to do way to much with way too few tools for way too little pay. Hopefully, schools/districts will take advantage of this to make teachers' lives easier.

  20. I hated this book! on Half Mast · · Score: 1

I bought the stupid thing because someone (whose opinion about fiction I'll take with a much larger grain of salt from now on) recommended it.

I kept trying to root for Alex (the main character) since I felt a bit of affinity with him. I ended up just hating him, and the book. Overall, it was a chore to read. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

If you want my copy for the price of shipping, let me know! (Even better if your name is Robert, since that is who Christopher Null signed it to).
