I dont know... there seems to be more to this than meets the eye. So many of them have shut down so quickly that I think MPAA / RIAA have used nastier tactics than before. Some of the sites I've seen seem to be saying that they did this for the sake of their users.
I could only hypothesise, but I'd love to hear from one of the people who run these sites to find out exactly what happened here. Hell, maybe they resorted to the good old fashioned goons at the door technique!
Good one. You know, if the geeks put in half as much effort to learning the opposite sex as they do learning the latest and greatest programming language I reckon they'd probably do fine!;)
...but it's not out yet. It's called "101 ways to get laid".

Because this isn't the first time that I've seen this in use. I saw it somewhere else before the link below, but the linked page gives a good idea of how to implement such a thing (Though I'm sure the google solution is more complex):
Surprising... we get enough of their tourists here!:) Besides that I believe that at least 4 of the first 10 US presidents were of Welsh decent. The problem with the Welsh is that they have a habit of just integrating themselves into new cultures......as opposed to the Scots and the Irish who get drunk and shout loudly about their heritage.;)
Oh, and I found this interesting - About half way up the Washington monument is a brick engraved with "My people, my country, my language - Wales forever" (In Welsh).
...are we even sure if these sites are being taken down by the tool? It would be really easy to write a slighly less kind denial of service tool that pushes those sites that extra little bit neccesary to take them out. Plus, the BBC article doesn't really mention if those sites have just been taken offline rather than being DDOSed out of commission. Of course, the intermittent site is a different story, but what I said first covers that.
I'm with the parent poster - Screw em. My hope is that Lycos Europe have their legal bases covered and the spammers don't manage to pull off anything clever.
lmao. That's pretty cool. I know, people in glass houses and all that. I noticed it as soon as I'd posted it, but in fairness I was trying to type it as quickly as possible.
You'd be amazed just how many Microsoft ITs read slashdot. I'm one, and I just added this very useful set of tools to my armoury. I'm also going to make sure as many of my peers know about it as possible too. I think I might pass a couple of links and some information over to "The Register" or "The Inquirer" and see if they'll pick it up for a little more exposure (At least for UK based techs).
Just don't expect the poor overworked low-level techs to be looking into its use. They're all too busy firefighting virus and spyware outbreaks.
UK, and work in publishing. Don't forget that common usage can change the meaning of a term too. There's plenty of discussion of [sic] on the web, have a look around to see its origins and how it's current use is taken to mean spelling in context.
The only person in this thread that actually understands how this word is used in publishing. No, it's not the latin (It might have been from the latin abbreviation originally, meaning "just as", "so" or "thus") - These days it's taken as "Spelling In Context". So (S.I.C.) would have technically been fine.

Lets face it though, these days the uninformed user would stand a chance. The old days used to be much more fun. Get the jumper settings wrong on your motherboard? Oh dear, you've just put 3x too much voltage through your CPU. Please try again with a new one. These days, nothing seems to blow up, short of cramming it into the wrong slots or directly connecting the 12v line to a memory chip.:(
Jumperless motherboards... pah, what next, PSUs without voltage selectors on the back?.
If you think that's bad, you should really start looking at consumer electronics products, especially the iPod where up until very recently USD = GBP. Face it, we get screwed in the UK on the price of pretty much everything. Don't get me started on the price of cars / petrol.
(Just did a quick check iPod 40gb - USD399, GBP299. That's still pretty bad, but not as bad as it used to be).
Some of us in Europe (I'm in the UK) are still ranting over the November 11th release date. Damnit - Still, as long as it gets here for the weekend I'll be happy.
Great, looks like we can now have multiway "Toothing", think of how many more interesting diseases I'll be able to pick up! Sexual deviancy has never been so easy.;-)
For those of you that don't know what toothing is (Shame on you!), here are some links:
Well, it's technically possible: http://www.ece.uiuc.edu/pubs/plasma/plasma1.html
I'm not picking on you, I just think "Sciencetific" is a seriously funky word. I plan on using it wherever possible in future!
;)
"Blah, blah, blah, cold fusion, perpetual motion, time travel."
"You must be pretty clever, that all sounds very Sciencetific!"

Can't comment on most of those, but I've read "High Score!" and it really was excellent.

I almost screwed one up myself, but given my opinions that would have been unforgivable!

* sigh * - It was a joke, hence the smiley.
Actually... my skillset exactly matches what you're looking for. Want to bring me over from the UK? :)

I know. I was in a rush because I didn't want her to see me typing it. :)
...but my wife say's you're sexy. How much to take her off my hands? :)
