    Windows XP Powertoys can do that. Or, if you're looking for multi-client support, look into the server versions of Windows.

    What's the answer to the question? The answer is: it doesn't matter.

    I got a GeForce 4 Ti 4200 with 128 megabytes and video input for $160. The 64 MB version with no video in was $130. So, the difference is $30. For $30, I'd get the extra 64 MB.

    Ok, so clock frequency != performance. We know that. However, by any reasonable performance metric (no, Photoshop tests don't count because Photoshop is highly AltiVec optimized but not very well SSE/MMX/SSE2 optimized), the Athlon/P4 creams the PowerPC. Look up the benchmarks for yourself. Artificial benchmarks, real world benchmarks. It doesn't matter. The G4 always pulls ahead in one or two benchmarks but loses in most of them.

    Because AMD isn't like that. They're a very "show me the money" type company: look when the new Thoroughbread Rev B came out. Little fanfare, it just happened.

    Now if Intel were actually shipping 4.1GHZ CPUs, I might be impressed. Remember that they can probably only maintain this frequency with hand-picked CPUs and components, watercooling (posibly peltier as well), large fans, etc. It's just not reasonable so far.

    That's a pretty lousey reason. Activation takes thirty seconds and doesn't require personal information.

    Microsoft has the right to protect their copyrights. Something like 80% of all windows copies ever purchased (OEMs excluded) were installed on more than one machine.

    That's your problem. Win2000 doesn't have a native skin engine. XP does (uxtheme.dll).

    The best connectors, bar none, are the USB/FireWire connectors. Small and cheap but not flimsy, easy to insert and remove (little pressure), but good retention, nearly impossible to break under normal circumstances, capable of carrying power, no stupid retention clip, compact but not tiny...

    Why does it matter if there are native Linux games? What do native Linux games offer over running Windows games in WINE?

    Not much.

    Ok, so we don't have any Linux games. Or office suites... etc. Who cares? If we have a good API layer, we can simply use Windows software. Will it deter programmers hoping to write Linux software? You bet it will. Does it matter? No.

    Get off your soapbox and realize that the real world isn't anything like that. Go ahead, try to vote with your wallet. See if it works. It won't.

    Until Netscape is up to at least 20% of the browser audience, it will be largely deemed irrelivent.

    70C? Your air cooling setup was seriously f------ up. I'm running an XP 2000+ with an overclocked GeForce4 Ti 4200 and my CPU runs stable at about 45C. And I just have a micro ATX case with a single 90mm fan.

    Darn! You beat me too it.

    I would like to add that TiVo is one of the most user friendly hi-tech products that has ever been on the market. Usually, advanced, "cutting edge" products really suck as far as usability (Remember when PCs were new? VCRs? They were all a major pain to setup and use), but TiVo is so simple that anyone can use it. It blows VCRs away.

    Or look at computers... they've gotten easier to use as well. Look at Windows XP or Mac OS X and compare them to previous versions. Even linux is getting usable.

    Simple. A PowerPoint COM interface runs on the PowerPoint server and communicates with the Zaurus with HTTP or your choice of other fine open protocols.

    I could hack up one in VB in ten minutes.

    The theme is not pixel-for-pixel perfect. I run Windows XP. With Visual Styles. IE looks quite a bit differente for me.

    Log on as Administrator. Go into "Services". Look through your services, looking at the "log on as" tab of each service. Make sure "Allow service to interact with desktop" is unchecked. Keep in mind that some services require this to have a GUI.

    STOP IT WITH MOZILLA! Every stinking time anarticle about popups is posted, twenty people chime and joke about how Mozilla blocks popups - and they always get modded up. We all know that Mozilla blocks popups, and one post per article would be fine, but I have read over fifteen posts about how great Mozilla is. Redundant posts about Mozilla's popup-blocking feature should be moderated as such.

    I personally do not use Mozilla. Quite a bit of CSS simply breaks Mozilla. There are no good themes. Mozilla is a fine layout engine but the UI and layout problems are hard to ignore.

    But that's just my $.02
