    The Mk-48 ADCAP torpedo is sick. It is scarier than missles. At least you have a chance to shoot missles down. 1 torpedo can break a destroyer in half.

    This was an older U.S. destroyer but I don't think any of the current cruisers or current destroyers would fare much better. I've read 4 for an AC (it is about 10 times the weight of the destroyer shown above).

    If I was spending on ship building I would do more subs less surface ships.

    The US Postal service should be offering their trucks to house this equipment for a fee. No other service travels to more parts of the country more regularly. Certainly piggybacking onto postal trucks would save Verizon (and ATT, Sprint, T-mob) money and give them better testing coverage.

    It would also help fund the Postal service which is billions in the hole.

    I went to the Arcada section of the library and there was a guy laying shot and bleeding on the ground. I went to help him and he said "Astral body".

    Anyway I had the computer retrieve the "astral body" cartridge. Stupid library didn't have anywhere to play the thing though.

    You are technically not allowed to add new matter to a continuing application. That means only things which were described at the time of filing of the priority application can be claimed. Of course a broad reading of the specification may allow for embodiments to be patented which were't necessaerily contimplated at the priority filing date but do pass the written description test.

    Actually the prior art that is required may even be earlier than that. You are only statutorily barred from a patent if the prior art ( 35 USC 102(b) type art) is more than 1 year prior to your priority date (or on sale in use 1 year prior).

    If it is say 6 months from your priority date (102 (a) the inventor may file a 131 declaration which attests that the invention was reduced to practice prior to the prior art date or that it was conceived prior to the prior art date and they diligently worked on the invention till the invention was reduced to practice.

    Google clearly states this on their page. There is no such thing as 'free'.

    One actual solution is to hire a patent agent. This person is an engineer who has passed the patent bar but has not gone to law school. They are allowed tpo prosecute (file for and obtain a patent) but not litigate in front of a court. Like any other profession there are good ones and bad ones.

    However, patent agents will be much cheaper than a patent lawyer.

    The law also states that if a item was on sale or in use In this country, that can be used as prior art. 102(b) On sale bar

    So if someone invented a widget product with some hidden internal structure and a person tried to patent it, the sale of said widget would be prior art.

    They also reserve your priority date. Where prior art clocks start on the date before the provisional not the non-provisional application. Also helps in case of interferences.

    SOCOTUS loves to smack down the CAFC.

    In fact the KSR decision was a repudiation of the CAFC interpreting obvious strictly based on the TSM (teaching suggestion motivation) test.

    If I were a betting man this decision will be changed by the SCOTUS is some way (either broadening what is patentable under 101 or further narrowing it).

    I agree it is highly unlikely that a specific bacteria would develop resistance over the short term, and if it ever did it probably couldn't even be considered the same bacteria species anymore.

    But lets take two bacterias:

    1. Radiodurans can resist extreme amounts of ionizing radiation which would act in the cell in a similar way oxidants would

    2. As for temperature there are bacteria that can live at 130 degrees C (a lot less than your 200 degrees C.

    Well the hydroxl radical, is one of the top oxidants. Greater than peroxide, ozone, and Chlorine. Which means that it wants to react with almost anything. http://www.lenntech.com/water-disinfection/disinfectants-hydrogen-peroxide.htm see table in the middle.

    It would almost be like humans developing resistance to getting shot in the head with a .45 gun. I don't see it happening.

    That said Radiodurans extremophiles are able to repair themselves at amazing rate from ionizing radiation induced: From wiki: While a dose of 10 Gy of ionizing radiation is sufficient to kill a human, and a dose of 60 Gy is sufficient to kill all cells in a culture of E. coli, D. radiodurans is capable of withstanding an instantaneous dose of up to 5,000 Gy with no loss of viability, and an instantaneous dose of up to 15,000 Gy with 37% viability. A dose of 5,000 Gy is estimated to introduce several hundred complete breaks into the organism's DNA.

    I fully agree. Tim Russert was the embodiment of what 'fair and balanced' should mean. He asked probing questions, slammed politicians with fact based evidence when they flip flopped or lied, liberal and conservative. If all journalists were like him our countries politics would be much better on both sides.
