    Right.
    In the last teo years, I have only bought PC's that come with no software insalled and that come with a Cd of drivers.
    I install whatever I want as an OS and applications that I care to use. I would never trust an "out-of-the-box" install, never.

    Companies need customers like this.
    The buying public need to be more aware and need to be willing to raise a fuss about how they are being jammed into a corner and how they are not willing to be screwed at every turn.
    What if GM required you to sign an agreement that thay were not liable for a defect in their manufacturing process? Would you be willing to "click through" on that?

    To comply with
    the terms and conditions of the software license agreements, you must consider any CD or diskette set of Dell-installed software as BACKUP copies of the software installed on your computer's hard-disk drive.

    This sounds like it means that you cannot make a copy of the software in case the "originals" get damaged. Copyright provides for the creation of backup of purchased software but this is the backup.

    Recently experienced a corporate "upgrade" to Exchange.
    By default, every folder had "Preview Pane" enabled (1st bad sign).
    All new folders have "Preview Pane" enabled by default (2nd bad sign).
    No global control for "Preview Pane" to be disabled (3rd bad sign).
    Coworker has 60 virus-laden e-mails this morning.
    Friday shutdown because of Blaster.

    The switch is going to save us how much????

    Read thisfrom YaHoo! finance. It shows where they got the bright idea to change the scope of their suit.
    Computer Associates (CA:NYSE - commentary - research) on Tuesday announced it would pay a $40 million settlement to a company that claimed breach of contract over a $15 million partnering agreement it made with the large software firm.

    In a press release issued after the bell, Islandia, N.Y.-based Computer Associates said it has reached a settlement with the Canopy Group and Center 7 over a suit filed by the companies in April 2001 in federal court in Utah. Center 7 claimed that Computer Associates reneged on a deal to help sell $15 million in software the small company had bought.

    Center 7 was formed by the Canopy Group, which has ties with companies experienced at suing the monsters of software. Canopy has a major stake in SCO Group (SCOX:Nasdaq - commentary - research), which in a suit filed in March charged IBM (IBM:NYSE - commentary - research) with infringing on its Unix copyright in its Linux business.
