UPDATE: After emailing back and forth with the VP Sinofsky, it was found that the chkdsk/r tool is not at fault here. It was simply a chipset controller issue. Please update you chipset drivers to the current driver from your motherboard manufacturer. I did mine, and this fixed the issue. Yes it still uses alot of physical memory, because your checking for physical damage, and errors on the Harddrive your testing. Iâ(TM)m currently completed the chkdsk scan with no BSODâ(TM)s or computer sluggishness. Feel free to do this and try it for yourselves. Again, there is no Bug. Thanks all.
"The Windows 7 beta is actually an upgrade, not a full new install. You need to have a machine running Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) to install the beta."
I am of the firm belief that this is infact incorrect and simply a misread piece of information. Possibly the journo had one too many coffees or was a little sleep deprived after the excitement of CES...
The Windows 7 Beta only supports Windows Vista SP1 to Windows 7 upgrades. So if you intend to do an upgrade - be sure it is on a PC running Windows Vista with Service Pack 1.
I read this as: "if you WANT to upgrade, you must have Microsoft Windows Vista with SP1 installed" and not that it is an explicit requirement.
I've been reading this site since 2000 and I can't recall *ever* seeing an image on the front page, I don't even think there was one for that monster thread about 9/11 as it unfolded...
all the constant interrupting was annoying I hope this doesn't start some sort of argument... but: OS X does the same thing, right?
I am sure that when I had a Mac a little over a year ago the GUI used to dim the background and prompt me for a password when I wanted to do things that required elevated privileges.

heh, you also need to remember that RIAA stands for recording industry association of AMERICA and as such this is really just a storm in a continent
the rest of the world will go about their daily business unaware of all of this jibber jabber from some group of american suits
they can filter all they like in their country, it should not affect the rest of us
this is of course all assuming that there are decent usenet servers outside the united states of america, which we know there are
I know that providing only just enough information as to allow people to construct their own interpretation of what you meant is quite trendy....however, what the hell do you mean?
Sure, you can get a Gentoo style of FreeBSD.. I am not sure you make any sense at all with how you proudly conveyed the fact though:)
Simple, install iDroid and forget iOS :)

Have a gander at http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/archive/2009/01/07/information-on-downloading-and-installing-windows-7-beta.aspx it states:

Feel free to prove me wrong, of course.
Windows 7 can't be patched online yet, but after release if these sites have copies that can be, then I doubt Microsoft would be so happy.
Hang on, it can't be updated with Windows Updates released for it?
I think you are wrong.
Surely someone can get out a telescope and see if there is a little man floating around in the sky?
Agreed!
I was thinking exactly the same thing.

LOL you are so 4.1 or earlier, dude.

Isn't that HMS?
Or was the Titanic really a Royal Mail Ship?

You need to read the first result to understand why everyone is pointing out that you're not quite on the same page as Microsoft on this one
Just make sure you also take down the details of the dealer they bought it from and you'll be fine :)
*sheesh* RTFA dude, they discuss what software will play HD-DVD content ;)
Bastards!
Our only real national phone company do the same thing regarding charging the earth for something that costs them next to nothing:
How much does it cost?
$3.95 a month (including GST) or $2.50 a month (including GST) if taken as part of our Anytime plan.

heh, $30,000,000 USD is a bit outlandish.
