    Seriously - if he hadnt flown out, as expected, 2 days ago - do you think noone would hvae noticed or said anything? Do you not think it *may* have raised some suspicions?

    The Iranian Embassy attack was slightly different - there it was an event that had ALREADY happened, this is about prevention....

    That is incorrect - the reason most laptops arent put into the hold is the number that get stolen, not airline rules!

    OUr work has now issued "guidance" - essentially bubble wrap, take off all data that we can, etc.

    Simplistic idiot? yes, you definatley fit the bill....

    By your definition, Prestwick airport (civilian) is a military target, as US made bombs are transported through there to Israel.

    After all, they targeted a house known to contact 50+ people, including 40 children, as there "may" have been some roc kets launched from there.

    You know, the small, shoulder launched type rockets. The ones that can be set up and removed in minutes.

    Oh, and when they destroy bridges - why not let the Lebanese govt know so they can block the road off? At least that way kids wont be killed.

    But then the good ol US of A keeps sending bombs to these killers, so i doubt you'll be able to see past this....

    As i said, if you dont rent it out and it stands empty you are stil liable. most rental contracts incorporate making the tenant liable for all charges on the property, which includes CT etc- this is what i am doing at the moment, the people i rent are not liable as by signing the contract *i* am liable.

    and they do pressure you into paying by DD, my local one anyway - they made some payment errors on my account (crediting the prior years account with current payments. idiots), and after i got a court summons (yikes!) I got angry with them and demanded an apology.

    The letter started "if you had paid by direct debit this would not have happened...."

    it got shredded.

    Wrong - you are always liable (if either you are still renting a flat / house, or own but dont rent out yr flat / house) for council tax while you are abroad. Its a tax made for providing services (e.g police,roads) which applies irrespective of you being in the country or not - the alternative is, i you dont pay when you come back you cant get out yr driveway as its been filled in - you werent paying for your portion towards the road, so why should you get to drive on it?

    You can always pay by standing order. they will pressure you into DD, but thats because they prefer it as THEY get to change the payments schedules, and i wouldnt do it - they often take 2 lots out at one go!

    If you own and are not renting your house out, or are renting the flat while you are away, then you are STILL LIABLE for council tax!

    You can always pay monthly by standing order. yes they will try to make you sign up for DD however CANNOT force you to - if you notice on the back (usually) they have their bank a/c details all there for you.

    In the UK small denominations (1p,2p,5p,10p,20p and 50p coins) are only valid as legal tender in amounts up to £20 - shops etc can refuse to accept them in amounts over that.

    £1 coins however are always legal tender. Hence one guy who paid his divorce settlement for £500k in pound coins dumped on her front garden.....

    There is also the book "Flux" by Stephen BAxter, which is based in his future universe where we decide to go to war with a super powerful 5b yr old civilisation...so nothing unusual there!

    in this "humans" were built into a neutron star, they would use photons to "smell" (slow light due to high high density), although i cant remember what they use to see - it was an amazing book, as they were less than a micron tall...eventually they find out that the reason for their existence was to build engines into the neutron star (build a wormhole gateway, oipen other end to space = highly compressed matter suddenly decompressing, rocket engine...) which was then used as a weapon agains this enemy.

    You find out through other books that this super powerful race are building a super massive blackhole (cue Muse fans) - seriously, they are steering GALAXIES into this thing - with the aim of spinning it up until it the event horizon disappears - there s a theory that a massive blac hole (which will have a large event horizon and therefore v low tidal stresses compared to a 3 sun mass one) which is spun would lose its event horizon, meaing you could enter it and go...well noone knows. The aliens are using this to escape from our universe...

    Very very cool series of books, although v hard sci fi - Baxter is a double PhD and knows his stuff.

    They would just seize MS property, rather than ban the sale of Windows - after all, courts have been doing that for years....

    IT is NOT, i repeat NOT a money grab - seriously, have you read ANY of TFA? If this really were a money grab they would have not given MS 18 months to comply with a court order, and instead started fining from day 1 - remember there has been ONLY REMEMDY so far, and no PUNITIVE for the original illegial actions.

    common mistranslation of the hebrew "to know" - one means sex, the other means, you know, to know what they are doing.

    Oddly enough, the people in the city of Sodom, whcih was under attack, wanted to know what these strangers ("angels") were doing in their city. they did not want to have sex with them. sorry, i know this makes things less convenient for you...

    Determining if it is a mobile is very easy however - since ~99 (iirc...) ALL mobile phones start 07, so there isnt an issue.

    Caller pays is akin to how the postal system works - it was decided it was fairer for the CALLER (poster) to bare the brunt of making phone calls (sending mail) as the reciever could not make allowances for unexpected items - originally the postman would ask you for money when the letter turned up, which if you couldnt afford it was a real problem. Hence stamps!

    Actually you can get fireproof safes that are certified for media - there are various standards on how long the internal temp will stay below 60C given a certain extrnal temp and duration.

    struggling to remember the standards, i seem to remember the EU one was more comprehensive though...

    Then you are wrong. MS has stated that unless you have a certain specification of machine, you cannot run aero - for example 64Meg video ram is needed as a minimum

    see Wiki:

    a 1Ghz 32-bit (x86) or 64bit (x86-64) processor
    1 gigabyte of system memory
    a DirectX 9 compatible graphics processor, with a Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) driver, and a minimum of 64mb of Video RAM

    For AERO to run properly you have to have a certain minimum bandwidth for video memory and also DX9c in hardware - so all X1300 based cards would not work. Your prior example of a PIII 700 is below the minimal requirements. You must be getting paid a lot....

    32 bit memory extensions - you would still get issues with not enough base memory in 3.1 extended.

    USB support - 95b (aka OSR 2 / 2.5) . it sucked but it was there.

    YES it was 32 bit lying on 16 bit, but then so was 98.....

    this is illegial, therefore by reporting it they cannot in and of themselves by violating the law - in fact their contracts also state upholding the constitution, so they would still not be in violation...
