How is it different from those ads that say "if you like XXXX (TM), then you'll love YYYY (TM)!" ?

  3. Re:Wait a minute... on Musicians vs. RIAA At USA Today · · Score: 1

It should be interesting as these multi-year contracts start to run out, and artists start to look for other solutions. (Unfortunately there aren't any other great solutions. Most of the good ones lack any real marketing)

I have an idea. Remember Alladvantage? Don't? Well, they had an extensive referral system. Unfortunately, their business model relied on bloated advertising prices, but something like that could work with music. You get royalties for referring people to buying an album, them referring others, etc. (this would work on a chain-to-chain basis). It wouldn't explode quite like alladvantage because people would have to pay, but I think there would be significant marketing. In exchange for lower payment per album (but higher that what they'd get a label) and a monopoly for some chain for THAT ALBUM (presumably not a music store so RIAA blacklisting them would not be too useful). Sales would rise, and musicians could do what they want for their next album.

  4. Re:forced alturism on Jacuzzi with 42'' Plasma TV · · Score: 1

In 1993 Clinton's budget raised taxes only on the very rich. The Republicans SCREAMED! They insisted it would lead to a depression.

Clinton also raised the minimum wage and brought in the Earned Income Tax Credit which actually gave some cash to poor people who are raising kids.

The result was a HUGE economic expansion - high economic growth for the longest time in our country's history.

You do remember that there were those dot coms in the 90s right? (I'm not saying that it had to be the only reason, but it had to be a reason...)

Also, one can interpret that the Republicans were in the economically bad times because people have gotten rich and that depression was inevitable; when people are poor, they want the government to help them, and when people are rich, they want to keep their money.

In 1990, a luxury tax was placed on certain "luxury" goods. Instead of taxing the rich, that put a burden on the makers of these products, as the rich weren't buying as much of them anymore. That means that even the rich do some budgeting. That gives some credence to the view that the rich might try to take advantage of tax cuts by circulating etc. (I am NOT saying that it's true, but some credence...)

I don't know which side I'm on yet, (which is kinda okay because I'm not even voting age) but I just figured I'd point the other side of the issue (which is kinda offtopic btw).

  5. reason for the delay on Gamecube: Launch Delayed, Logo Added · · Score: 1

"Our industry has learned the dangers of arriving at a launch party without enough gifts," said executive vice president of sales and marketing for the company, Peter Main. "By increasing our day one shipments to almost three-quarters of a million, we not only should come close to meeting total demand at launch, but also assure virtually uninterrupted restocking through the holiday season."

See- the reason for the delay is simply to have more units at launch (700k as opposed to 500k)

Well IGN is the other competitor besides gamespot. I see a bright future for them, as they have a pay program (which I joined). Hopefully that will give them the revenue they need.
