the mpaa wants to get rough...... the mpaa needs to understand who pays their luch ticket...... any punitive action on their part would seem to me to be an "act of war"; as well as an act of self-destructive, suicidal childishness.
I have had but a few (3) problems with sound cards over the past four years and dozens of installations with Linux. For the most part, I caused the problems in the first place. Either the author here is being "silly" or I'm really damned good with Linux - and I am not all that skilled with the OS - yet.
I suppose one who calls himself a "Chiq Geek" would need to find something totally useless to complain about. Up here in Cannuk land, the Glob and Mule is revered by the pseudo-intelligencia and otherwise tolerated as the typical news rag it is. With so much going on in our TechWorld of great importance, one would think a 'journalist' could find a subject not quite so silly to write about. Or maybe it's just me: I got the Easter Bunny Blues... today.
I think Mr. Cringley underestimates the long term power of an open and easily shared computing environment. I just tried Mandrake 10 out for a few days. Mandrakesoft has pulled itself out of bankrupcy (not easily done these days). Other Linux distros are shining brightly too. I think Microsoft should be very worried.
I usually "preview" a song or movie. If I like it, I *always* buy it asap. If I don't like it it gets trashed. I do this because I can. I think it's only fair **TO ME**.

Just the idea that one can own an idea seems to draw the strangest, most selfish idiots to try to *make it so*.
I think we need a little less greed and a lot more thoughtful helpfulness in our world if we are to be successful as a species. We need to smarten up and and start to play nice with each other. The maggots of the world salivate as they watch us - hoping we make a wrong move: all those yummy corpses!
This simply adds more hard core evidence that SCO is operated by liars. One would imagine these idiots would try a little harder to cover up their stupidity.
There are times when forcing more control over something leads to a total loss of control. As individuals, we tend to resent being distrusted. As a group we are no different. I don't see anything useful coming out of these DRM schemes. Dishonest people will *always* find a way to break into something.
If Microsoft is able to so easily piss off and alienate people in our own western cultures with their rude marketeering and downright savage business behavior - imagine what sensibilities could be imposed upon with the Chinese.
Though not usually a good idea, bypassing MS to announce these flaws openly may just be a bit of payback for good ol' MS.
This is a **very** important point. If the bugger were running a child molester dating service, I'm sure he wouldn't do that out of his home - or perhaps he would.
Someone this clueless about computing and the Internet shouldn't be working with it in the first place.

I just tried their test with Firefox 1.0. Nothing happened... this story is bull.
Why should these copycat morons have anything to do with the future of hardware - especially after doing so very well with software.

""One wonders how the US government would react if a foreign nation tried a similar approach.""
I would consider this to be as much flaimbait as my comment. Are we a little biased here?

Yes, Diebolt makes Vote for Bush machines.

I'm crying my eyes out. If those selling music in any form refuse to work *with* their customers (not consumers), they deserve to die out.
Granted, the software may be buggy, their "fix" is to upgrade. A market ploy comes to mind.
Yeah - "bitchslapping" - this case is taking too long.

Wassamatter, Timmy - can't handle straight talk?
Your dipshit modding means no more posts by me. You people sure know how to spoil the broth.
Fuck you
