    Huh? Cable channels are still based around topics.

    MTV = Teen junk channel

    Discovery = Motorcycle channel
    TLC = Home Improvement Channel
    G4 = Crap channel
    TBS = Sitcom channel
    TNT = "The same movie 5 times in a row" channel
    SpikeTV = The "where syndicated shows go to die" channel

    Sure they all need a bit of renaming...

    Alas, despite the wait, Tiger is a minor revision, like all previous OS X updates.

    I have some quips with this statement (its a favorite of Thurott's too.) Windows 2000 to XP was a minor revision (5.0 to 5.1 I believe.) So was, arguably, Windows 95 to 98. And 98SE to ME.

    Also, since it seems Microsoft is releasing most of the cool Longhorn features to Windows XP... XP to Longhorn may very well be a "minor revision" as well.

    A widget is special because it can be called up by hitting the Dashboard key and then gotten rid of quickly.

    The code behind a widget is nothing new/special... its HTML. You can mix in Javascript and Cocoa as well (I guess you just embed them into the HTML? I'm not sure)

    Are you from Microsoft's marketing department?

    The same Marketing department that told us to scrap our 200,000+ VB6 application (hey, it was that way when I got there don't blame me) and rewrite it in VB.NET?

    The same Marketing department that told us Oracle was ol' school so we should rewrite 2.5 million lines of PL/SQL in SQL Server?

    If you want to do this for us for free, go right ahead. "Enterprises" don't run like MS's marketing department would have you believe.

    I really feel that MS got some things very very right with Visual Studio .Net and it is way different developing .Net apps with the IDE in Visual Studio.

    No offense, but MS got some things very very right with Visual Studio 6. VS.NET was very very wrong.

    People can say what they want about VB6, but being able to edit your code while debugging saves a lot of headache. There have been times in VS.NET where I've had to rebuild an entire project because a file is out of sync and its telling me I have a bug on a blank line.

    Visual Basic has its place in the world, just like all other languages. That said, VB.NET is NOT Visual Basic.

    Sorry for the OT rant. I just feel VS.NET is too buggy. I liked Visual Studio 6 fine. Eclipse is great, needs a speed improvement. XCode ticks me off but I like what I see in 2.0. Text Wrangler still reigns supreme. :)

    The weather and flight tracking applets don't ship with Panther. They have them standalone in Tiger? I didn't see that on Apple's website.

    Apple has included an application called Safari that connects to this thing called the internet where you can visit pages such as weather.com or your local airline to get these things. Sorry to respond like a dick, but these are things that you look at and then get rid of not leave on your screen. And if you did, use the internet. Its not like either are hard to get to.

    Yes, right now I don't know of any Dashboard widgets for which there is no third-party alternative... but just wait. Dashboard is going to be like Hypercard. People will do all kinds of things in Dashboard just because scripting is so easy. That cool potential makes the ghettoization of the widgets so unfortunate.

    Right... BUT... Dashboard is made for (I'll say it for like the 3rd time) widgets that you need to look at and get rid of. People coding for Dashboard should know this. If you need to code something else, you use a different tool. Its not like Dashboard widgets use some new language... they're HTML, Javascript, and Cocoa.
