Doom Movie Pushed Back to October
I know you're all waiting with breathless anticipation for the Doom film, but GamesIndustry.biz has word that you'll have to wait until October for the U.S. release. From the article: "The film was formerly expected to appear in late June in North America, but Universal's website confirms a report on horror movie website Bloody-Disgusting.com that it has swapped places with George Romero's next zombie movie, Land of the Dead."
Anyone else find it funny that Romero is yet again associated with Doom? It's obviously a different person, but what a coincidence in names.
Who are these other people going to be, though, monsters? I don't remember any other people in Doom, except for heads on stakes (and John Romero, at the end). Maybe they could get Michael Moore a cameo as a mancubus.
What I'm listening to now on Pandora...
I wasn't planning on watching it till it came out on latenight TV and then only if there was nothing else on.

...the Duke Nuken movie has been postponed until October 2010 ;)
Except I'm not going to include any of the bradeys. It will be a sci-fi flick on mars with hell beasts.
hate the 'sponsored link' advertising, used among other places on the article? look for "Universal's website" on the story - now, when you click 'website' on that.. did you except that you'd be taken to universals website, that's where you wanted to go anyways, right? bzz wrong, the sponsored link goes to some domain selling service.
usually they're not a problem but when people are using in them a way that tricks you to link on them they reaaally suck. getting people seriously NOT intrested in buying a domain name is not in the interest of the advertiser either.. i'd expect.
as to the doom movie.. it's just the name that's "doom" and that's pretty much it. why would you even need doom brand if you were doing a movie about it? just call it dooooomed or whatever, the monsters are not going to be from doom anyhow so..
world was created 5 seconds before this post as it is.
They're starting filming of Duke Nukem Forever in Ocbober as well!

That was supposed to be funny mods. In reality, I'm most likely going to be dragging myself to the theater the night it opens just like all the other times I went to see a horrid video game remake only to wonder why I was there... Mortal Kombat, Mario Brother, and all the other movies that were just horrid. But I'll go to the theater nonetheless in hopes that it will actually be good. I hope they actual prove me wrong because I have been a fan of Doom since I put the demo on my 486sx.
Now for Romero's movie I'll be sure will be very interesting. It's supposed to be about life about 10 years after the Dawn and Day of the Daed where humanity has just gotten used to have zombies around.

Given that most movies based on video games suck, a delay in the Doom movie can only be a good thing! More worrisome is all of the free publicity said likely bad movie will get because of the "link" to the Columbine shootings. All of that said, maybe it will be a good show afterall. The first Mortal Kombat movie was pretty good, so there's at least a little hope... Yeah...
To the making of books there is no end, so let's get started
Just as many were expecting, the movie quality is probably _not that good_ (to say it in kind words) so is being pushed back to avoid interference with the sales of Doom3 products right now, at e3 and during the summer. Also to have a little bit more of a chance as a "halloween" season movie (when crappy horror movies are released).
Whatever the case, this is a good sign to avoid this movie like ebola, wait for the dvd to be released and rent it in blockbuster (which will probably be a few weeks after theatrical release)
Seriously guys what did you expect? is a low budget film (most of the budget was expent in fx) barely associated to a hit videogame and was made in what? 1- 1 1/2 years? expect the review in www.somethingawful.com instead of an oscar nomination.
Go ahead MOD my day!

I thought they already made the Doom movie but called it "Resident Evil" for some reason....
Seriously, watch the opening of RE and compare it to the opening of Doom. Change the town for mars or something maybe.
will you be able to swap in your own bitmaps in place of the actors?

I remember hearing several years ago that Tom Berenger was tapped as being the main "marine" for a Doom movie. This was long before Doom 3.
Of course the SMB movie has very little to do with Doom. That's a good thing.
Please just either cancel or rename this movie. Please? :(
The film is believed to be set in more contemporary times than the sci-fi games, and focuses on a viral outbreak rather than an invasion from Hell - much to the annoyance of fans of the videogame series.
Bummer. I won't be paying to see it then. C'mon, it's DOOM; a game where you shoot demons from Hell. What are they keeping from it, the double-barrell shotgun? Basically, it's Resident Evil with a male lead.
Dwayne Johnson, better known as The Rock, plays a leading role in the movie, alongside Karl Urban (Lord of the Rings, The Bourne Supremacy) and Rosamund Pike (Die Another Day, The Libertine)
IIRC, Urban would play the marine (lead character) and The Rock would play the sergeant. Sounds good, not excellent, but good - Karl Urban's look is pretty fitting and i actually like The Rock in action movies.
This movie is going to be bad. Just how bad remains to be seen. We can at most hope for bearable bad OR so fucking bad it becomes good again. Most like it will be unbearable bad. Oh well, who needs a movie when you got the game?

I swear, I must be the only person on this planet who likes the Mario Brothers movie.
Can't we just substitute "October" with "trash can" and be done with it?

Bio-Force Gun. Un-fucking-believable.
... is involved in DOOM. The guy's a class act. He has interesting projects in the works such as "A Million Little Pieces," "Trailer Park Boys, "The Breathtaker," "Every Word is True." And "ER" and "The West Wing," etc. He's got really good taste. I think DOOM has a chance to be the heir to Cameron's ALIENS.
Films that open near Halloween capitalize on the horror tie-in potential which can be extremely lucrative. When films are dumped, they open in August or January.
A lot of you have it all wrong. Films that open near Halloween capitalize on the horror tie-in potential which can be extremely lucrative. When films are dumped, they open in August or January. Doom is being positioned where it will open the strongest. I'll bet it is also being distanced from War of the Worlds, probably a smart move. And Doom is effects heavy, so they probably need more time in post to get it right.
Has anyone connected to the film ever said why they didnt do the whole "deamons from hell on the moons of mars" bit like the games?
Yes, yes you are.
