hrm, are you related, or do you just have the same last name?
if its the latter then I 1up you:P I went the the same highschool as him, and I even had the same english teacher, so there.. of couse if your his brother, then... nevermind
rrr, sorry to ask this question here, but it seems like you guys might know...
I changed my email address, but I've been running the distributed.net client for months, and I've cracked thousands of blocks... is there anyway to change my email address (if I win:P) so that I still get all the money? (of couse I have a better chance of winning the lottery a billion times over... but still) --------------- Chad Okere
probably the same one that limits the lives of our computers, to about 5 years... the fact that better stuff comes out...
but I really really that they could have a tenfold increase just from a download of software. in essance there saying that in 5 years they can 'optimize' there softare 10x.
while CPU densitys may halve every 18 months, I don't think software folowes the same route --------------- Chad Okere
I belived they used a UNIVAC, or somthing similar, to help develop the first Nuke... they didn't do a simulation per se (obviously) But I belive they had it crunch some numbers for them (and to determine if it was even posible) --------------- Chad Okere
I'm sure the people and government of the US weren't always so enlightened and open to free speech. However, over time speech has (supposedly) become more free. Even coloured people can (supposedly) speak freely in the US now Free Speach has been at the *core* of our nation since the begining (well after the bill of rights were passed, very early on). There was no censoring of Televison, or Print media in the 1960's (as there is in china today). When the US was created, it was the *only* true democracy, since the pre-cezar days of rome. America may seem to be run by dumbasses, but they could *never* pull somthing like the Chinese. The fact is, people are jailed for there mear words. that could *never* happen here --------------- Chad Okere
Probably beacuse they have somthing *imporntant* to do... I doubt many people would spend hundreds of millions of dolars for somthing, and then leave it running idle... --------------- Chad Okere
wow, the AMD *does* suck for FP... I got 6.25 mflops in java with my p200MMX.. (it could be the java interpreter though, I'm using netscapes on win98) --------------- Chad Okere
not only there hardware, but there Driver development as well. I think creative actulaly had to come out with at mini driver for there v2 cards in order for them to work with q3test... --------------- Chad Okere
I think this brings up an intresting point, without glide, 3dfx has nothing (other than name recognition and mindshare) there not any better then Matrox or ATI, second string to nVidia and maybe s3.
(actualy matrox and ATI support 32bit color, so they may actualy be worse)
Recently, 3dfx mirged with STB, witch makes OEM cards, and cut off the suply of chips to Card Makers like Dimond, and Creative (and every one else). This reeally fucked everyone over...
I personaly think Creative did this just to screw 3dfx, I don't think glide really matters that much anymore, and I'd be willing to bet that Creative did this just to pissoff 3dfx...:) --------------- Chad Okere
I agree, I think 3dfx could have a chance if they pull there heads out of there asses, but the v3 isn't any more powerfull then the TNT2, and I can only imagen what nVidia's chips will be able to do once the come out with really new ones (actualy, the TNT2 is what the TNT would have been if they wouldn't have had problems with the.25 micron fab process.). and it dosnt' even supprot true color rendering.
if it hadn't been for Microsoft's Direct X, and later open GL there's a good chance that 3dfx could have become the next intel, in every PC, beacuse the only API that people would use would be Glide... It was pretty slick of them, I think, but I think microsoft saw it comming (and glide worked in dos, and MS wanted to kill dos support)
well I guess microsoft is good for *somthing*:) --------------- Chad Okere
you should read the Neil Stephonson Artical that was linked to from the page, it was intresting as hell and had a pretty good car metiphor for linux and diffrent OSes, it also talked about american culture (or lack therof) and teletype macines.

yeh, I had to admit, the artical was amazing, I like neil stephenson's work (anyone read mother earth, mother board?) and I figured I'd bookmark the page and come back to it later... I didn't I read the whole thing strait through.
for those of you who don't know, Neil Stephenson is also the author of Snow Crash and Cryptonomicon
I think the most intresting revilation in the peice is the fact that there is a good chance that Cryptonomicon was writen entirely in EMACS!!!!!! (I don't think I could posbly type enough exclamation points to that statment)
well, the problem with that is, if you use encription a, b, c, and d, you only get a*b*c*d security, where as if you just add 32 to the number of bits in a message, you make it 4 billion times as hard to crack, so all that crap may not be worth the time in comperison to just using longer bit lengths,
besides, I'm sure the NSA knows about every encryption system, from RSA to delmoi's wacky ass 8-bit xor encryptor:)
There was a big artical in a recent issue of wired about some guy in england who though up Public key stuff. he worked for the intelegence agency, and no one there beleved it could work, then when RSA figured it out as well, he got a lot of internal credit, I doubt they would have told the NSA though, (but maybe they were listening in??) --------------- Chad Okere

actualy, as it stands, you have to decript data if it's supened(sp?), if you don't its obstruction of justice.
the "not incriminating yourself" thing is to stop forced admitions
