Shouldn't kids these days learn to use windows, since it's the OS that most businesses and jobs use? (PC's too, not macs) They should probably teach them word/office, visual studio, POS/Inventory and other IS software, and 2D/3D art. All in windows, not linux, since windows is much more popular! I assume they would use the industry standards on all those other softwares that they should teach in school, tool.
It's obvious to me that any person who talks about programming in the abstract doesn't actually write programs. Each person should have an individual and practiced style, and any serious programmer shouldn't read about how to program, excepting very serious 'tutorial' style guides on specific techniques and APIs. Is there a programming style called 'design & write lots of programs'? I think these abstract programming methodologies were probably created by college teachers that needed something to lecture about, and didn't know any APIs aside from stdio, or functions besides printf.
Are there any good 3D desktops for linux or windows? (Maybe as a replacement for explorer?) I guess a 3D desktop could be something as simple as 3D models for icons instead of 2D bitmaps, 3D accelerator support for fast rendering, a 3D background object, and maybe some rotating or zooming virtual desktops. It might be nice to have built in scaling for all programs too, rending the programs' 2D images onto a 3D polygon, then allowing the user to scale that polygon at 1:1, or at a different ratio (such as a 'zoomed out', or even a 'zoomed in' mode), and the zoomed out mode would be useful particularly when there were multiple windows on the screen, and fine detail wasn't too important...
Are there any practical 3D desktops around, or other desktop alternatives? These new desktops are just more of the same, heck some people still use the old version of the desktop, the 'shell'.
As I'm sure you all know, flour is compressed wheat. I assume that if you compress a plant in a compactor (or between two stones), you get a result that appears different than the original plant. Although the two stone compression will give you an interesting result, you probably won't be able to compress 1000 plants into something the size of a pill with stones, you'll need clamps and metal, and possibly an engine or motor. Air can also be compacted, although I've heard that water cannot, at least without hydrogen technology. I assume meat can be compacted, although I'm not sure if such a product exists. If you compress 1000 green tea plants into a pill-sized mass, will you end up with no-doze?
This explains those scientific peer reviewed studies that are so popular in the media and are written by college students. They're cheating and falsifying data!
How tricky is it to print/handwrite a bunch of fake ballots and sneak them into the ballot box? Does anyone have any other hacks for the paper voting system?
When a person breathes out, that air they breathe out can no longer be breathed in again, at least until a plant processes the air to return it to a form usable by the human. (That's my understanding, at least) Fire also consumes air, although I'm not sure how the air fire uses is returned to a breatheable form. Fire is also essential to human productivity, since both gasoline and electricity require use large quantities of fire. Productivity has been increasing; prehaps there is something we should do to compensate for the fires of industry & commerce? Less of each doesn't seem particularly appealing to me. Also, according to the satellite maps, there's very large empty land areas between the cities, and large non-burning areas over the ocean...these areas are covered with air-rebreathing plants, so perhaps there is no problem? I can still breathe all right, except occasionally when I'm riding on the freeway, so perhaps there is no problem if my understanding of the air cycle is correct.
Has anyone else experienced growing plants (and animals) with the water from a very deep (10+ feet) hole? Since I started putting the water from the 15 foot hole in the yard, I've seen an amazing growth of a variety of plants, some with very bright, almost neon coloring. There's also been a large outbreak of animals, many of varieties that I've not seen in this area before. Is it the water from the deep hole, or just the fact that I'm putting a large quantity of water on the plants in the yard that is causing this to happen?
It's 10:41 and all is silent. There's a few cars around. I guess everybody keeps the same schedule, and does nothing fun and loud such as blowtorching or using powerful engines to do work. Perhaps instead of calling gunfighters to shoot and/or cage people that make noise, we should all just enjoy the noises of creation. Hammering makes noise. Sawing makes noise. God forbid people use those newfangled 'engines' to build things, or powerful vehicles within the city at night, because it hurts people's ears. Sort of similar to stabbing them in the ears with a hot metal spike, except minus the crippling injury.
If nobody does anything, then there will be perfect silence. We're almost there now. Perhaps if everybody and everything died, then there would be no noise at all?
Perhaps if you were more tolerant of the people around you making noise, you could make noise too.
Since a ballon filled with air and immersed in water does not collapse, but rather floats to the surface, would a ballon filled with space in our atmosphere float back up to space, and not collapse?
Although divers can't land on people, cars can run people over, yet it's a commonly accepted part of having cars around. In a similar way, airplanes can fall on people (just as cars can run over people and/or crash through buildings), yet most people will fly in a way that prevents their expensive airplane from breaking, and also in a way that prevents them from getting hurt. A person doing both of those things will probably not crash into a building any more than cars crash into buildings. Some of the airplanes posted here weigh less than 200 lbs, and a good house should offer protection against a falling object of that mass, although many houses do not. (That would be a good feature to look for in a house purchase, in particular the ability of the house to withstand an impact from any direction, including a weapons impact) Another safety feature that most people overlook on aircraft is a parachute on the aircraft itself; this parachute can cause a wing or engine failure to turn into a safe landing. Finally, most aircraft are lightweight, and springy, and a good aircraft can be landed in a very small area, which should dramatically incrase the value of land areas that are not directly connected to a road, and ease traffic a ton. Looking at the roads from the sky, there is very little road area that can be used, and there is much air space that can be used by aircraft. Of course, people don't spend much time in aircraft, compared to how much time they spend in cars, so as more people start to use cheap, efficient, and practical aircraft there will be a bit of a learning time, when people are not so good at flying. This is true for cars, also, however there will be less aircraft when people are still mostly new to flying.;)
On the topic of the fertility clinics that are providing the stem cells, do women actually volunteer for abortions, or do they have to be forced by others?
You're assuming that the physical storage of the bits is geometric...when in fact one 'pixel' of hard disk resolution holds a large variety of magnetic values. (sort of like how there's 8 bits in a byte, there might be 100k bits on the smallest spot of hard disk the magnetic head can read)
I'm embarking on a bit of farming; what I want to know is is this so called stem cell research advanced genetic engineering, which is actually advanced farming using artifical selection? The things I've found out about farming so far is that smaller animals reproduce faster, and cause exponential population growth faster. Animals are cannibalistic if you forget to feed them. The females eat mostly plants, the males eat meat. In a litter of 9, there's 8 regular looking animals that appear to be a mix of the parents, and a ninth animal that appears completely different. I did some research online about this, and it may or may not be called 'chimera', perhaps in reference to that this other animal may mutate into an animal with two heads, although I haven't gotten one of those yet.
The ethical debate on stem cells, in particular human stem cells, may be about doing this fast reproduction experiements on humans. This is probably unethical, if in fact people want to start genetically engineering humans, I'm not sure if that's a good idea. On the other hand, we could get faster reproducing, smarter, stronger humans from doing such experiments. If there's some other reason to experiment on very young (1-8 weeks after conception) humans, I'd love to hear about it in a practical way. I read something about growing organ replacements this way...and I guess it's okay, we routinely kill babies prior to birth...
I used to hang out with a few cops, and they didn't personally consider themselves good people. Job perks include ass-kicking and groping, and arresting semi-innocent or innocent people for personal reasons. They also mentioned driving excessively fast in heavy, powerful cars as a perk too, and arresting people with probable lifetime sentances seemed to cause them pleasure. I would occasionally catch them humming the tune of a certain Michael Jackson song, too.
Most people have little or no exposure to the law, prefering instead to not get caught when breaking the laws a little bit. The first exposure many people get to the laws may be a ticket for a traffic infraction; what some people, especially drug users, fail to realize is that their breaking the laws each time they use, and not just once. Remember that three felonies is a life sentence in California and some other states, and that three misdemeanors is a felony, and that three infractions is a misdemeanor. Also, the standard of proof is not mathematical, and most convictions are based on the testimony of one or more co-working police officers.
They're almost giving away a product that has traditionally cost $500. Even though it's labeled beta, I'll bet that this is a pretty good version of office. They've been giving away visual studio for a while now, too. $1.50 for a software download of the most popular software product ever (after windows) is a pretty good deal, I hope more companies follow and offer cheap versions of their software for download. Perhaps software wants to be free?
On the Microsoft hatred topic...why the heck is there so much anti-microsoft sentiments, so much so that visual studio has been excluded from schools? Is it because Bill is a serious competitor against the NATO governments for leader of Earth? (As the richest (or second richest) person he controls a large number of people through paying them to do things, and can control a large amount of the earths production both directly and indirectly through financial manipulation) From what I've read of his books he's very anti-government and pro-freedom, and I'd think you'd all think he was cool.
People are only willing to let it happen because the media has been censored. Remember that there are very strict laws on what can and cannot be printed, said, distributed via the internet, or shown on television or in the movies. In particular, there are laws on liebel and slander that prohibit the saying or writing of untrue things. Since the truth is not always obvious, it is the liars that have pushed these laws and made the telling and writing of true things illegal.
If no person can say, write, televise, or otherwise distribute any information that is contrary to the information that the government distributes, then everybody will agree with the sole source of information. There is no information to the contrary, at least that is distributed to the masses. It is very easy to win a one sided arguement, especially when the source of all information is under strict, and violent control.
All of these spying tools, although probably in existance, are unnecessary. Each person in society must follow a very strict standard. That standard is waking up before the alarm, soloing, morning routine, school & work, lunch, more school & work, then store shopping and the evening routine, including a group meal and daily discussion (this is the only meal where meat is consumed, milk is consumed in the morning, and possibly at lunch), then the evening television watching begins, adults may have beer at this time, then the evening soloing, sleep, and again at 3am. This pattern repeats, until the weekend patter, upon which people are required to follow an equally rigid routine that varies due to bilologial differences in humans.
Deviation from this routine is trivial to detect, and since humans must have contact with other humans the social networks can easily detect a person becoming different or weird. These people are tortured and eliminated from society in a secretive and efficient way. You probably know people that have disappeared. Small deviations are met with physical pain, usually in the form of piercing and cutting.
When you ask a person if they agree that things should be the way they are now, they know they must agree. Since they have never seen any information outside of what is allowed, and since they have also seen what happens to deviants and people that are not satisfied with the way society is, they say that they are happy with the way things are. To do otherwise is to die. Luckily, we appear to be on the verge of changing the way things are, perhaps, replacing the old routine with a new routine that will cause people to meet all of their needs and wants, and to have extra posessions and true freedom, the ability to do what they want when they want to.
How would a person use this flaw to run a keylogger or other virus on a person's system? Is it possible to do this with this bug? I autopatched when the new version came out, but the behavior of the test site, with firefox crashing and the hard disk making the hard disk reading/writing noise, I've seen before the patch on some nonreputable websites...how bad could the damage be, and do I need to reformat? (NAV doesn't detect anything, but NAV never detects anything, including my homemade virii/keyloggers)
If you're getting tired from waving a wii remote around, you're also building muscle, increasing your heartrate and heartstrength, and exercising. If the wiisports provides enough exercise and fun, we could start seeing a bunch of extremely physically fit gamers. Also, I'm pretty sure that physical exercise increases brainmass, since the brain is part of the body and blood is getting pumped through it when you exercise, although I don't have a good scientific source on this fact. If that is true, then exercising your wrist (and legs, if you have to move around when playing wiisports) would cause gamers to get stronger, smarter, and possibly more coordinated, all from working out during their video gaming time. And although at first you could only play for 15 minutes, after a few times your stamina will increase so that you can play for 30 minutes, an hour, and more.
Does this patent mean that only microsoft can give away computers and computer software that is paid for with advertising? As much as I would love free PCs for everybody (and microsoft could probably afford to give away free PCs) it seems to me that any company should be able to manufacture computers and computer software and give them away, then make money from advertising...giving away computers, perhaps with a second screen built into the first one to show ads, could allow 100% of humans to have access to the two-way information networks. (as opposed to the one-way information of traditional medias, such as the television, movie, and print medias) Including software with these free PCs could even bring about a new, error-free computer, since installation and testing could be done on a much more standard platform, although disk space could be a limiting factor, since not every kind of software could fit on a stardard size modern hard disk! In addition, if 100% of the people in the large manufacturing countries, such as mexico and china, had computers with internet, we could and perhaps should see a new way of large scale coordination beyond the current way called capitalism. Although it does appear capitalism has mostly died...money still has value to people, although the idea that a person can trade money for goods is still strong, it appears as though people no longer trade goods for money. Perhaps this free PC will bring about a new way of trade, through some kind of teaching/coordinating/manufacturing/shipping/distr ibuting/mining software that everybody could access?
