I haven't read the article, but I remember a story in PHX AZ where a police officer lost his job because kiddie porn was found on his home computer. His explanation? "I got bored"

I've looked at TONS of porn via newsgroups and I can empathize with the 'bored' part. If you look at enough body parts, they all start to look the same. Just imagine, if you've downloaded even ONE complete news group like 'alt.binaries.erotica.pictures' you've probably seen more vaginas than a gynecologist would in a month or more.

I think seeking new things is natural, in this-case though, the effects can be 'unhealthy'... primarily for the person viewing the material. As they become accustomed to extreme bsdm, kiddie porn, or whatever their unusual flavor of the week/month/year they become less adjusted to what is available and acceptable in real life.

What would be really cool would be to run a positive jpg campaign, one free of criticism, but with information about alternate activities, how to socialize, be healthy... these people often need help, and usually know it.

Biopiracy refers to the "monopolisation of genetic resources" according to the show's organisers. It is also defined as the unauthorised use of biological resources by organisations such as corporations, universities and governments.

    According to their website:

    Google Inc.

For teaming up with J. Craig Venter to create a searchable online database of all the genes on the planet so that individuals and pharmaceutical companies alike can 'google' our genes - one day bringing the tools of biopiracy online.

Bringing the tools of biopiracy online? Biopiracy is a matter of law and legislation, not technology. There is potential for harm, but cars, guns, and the internet come to mind...

The award for Info-Piracy goes to Al Gore for funding projects that helped create the internet, which allows a select few access to vast amounts of scientific, political, and current-event, knowledge, giving them an essential monopoly on all information on the planet.

I can quote from my dad's experience. He studied science & biochemistry @ a university in Indianna just after WWII when everyone was clamoring for scientists. Being one of those over-achiever nut-job types, he also minored in business.

After graduation his major wasn't worth much, there were just too many freakn' scientists available for hire. In the end his minor in business got him a job, he went on to become the director of research at Valley National Bank.

Ultimately he used both his scientific training and his business education. He had 'just enough to get started'. More importantly, he had the courage to take a risk, and it paid off handsomely.

When in doubt, go for the major you enjoy, your career will give you all the 'on the job training' you need.

    In a word, no.

What you end up with is scatter from the smaller particles. Light hits them, and is radiated back as heat, in ALL directions. Both the light and heat are then scattered in all directions by other particles in the air. (the degree of reflection/absorption-radiation of the particles has a significant effect on the degree of heat radiated)

This creates a warmer 'boundary layer' that reduces the amount of heat given up by lower layers of the planet, so even if those lower layers get less energy, they're not as likely to give it up.

    That's how clouds work btw.
