  1. Periodicals that expire on What Will It Take For eBook Adoption? · · Score: 1

It's been a serious issue that everytime I move I seem to be moving STACKS of magazines for no particular reason! The last time I moved I came across magazines that got moved from the PRIOR MOVE!

  2. Why? on How To Lose An Election · · Score: 1

Why does these systems have to be SO overly complicated!

I could take a PII 400 Mhz (which is probably overkill). Get a bunch of dumb serial terminals. Design an IDIOT simple menu screen for voting....attach a dot matrix printer to print out each vote as it happens and get a very reliable system for voting (It would be almost trivial to build a slackware box for this purpose).

Am I being overly simple in my design? Arrogant? Would something that simple work?

  5. Re:v6 could help solve some net problems on IPv6 is Here · · Score: 2, Insightful

That's NOT going to happen. IN IPv6 you are not allowed to take your address with you to another ISP. All address blocks assigned by almighty on high are only to be given to tier 1 and possibly tier 2 providers. These Tier 1 and Tier 2 providers then subnet the v6 address space to their customers.

DNS becomes MUCH more important. Since that is the only thing you will be able to take with you if you move ISP's.

This was done to keep the internet backbone routers clean of having to deal with huge routing tables.

Fedora IS NOT a distro who's goals are SuSE or Mandrake. It's buggy BECAUSE it's got software they are trying to test.

If you REALLY want to use Fedora but don't want to deal without most of the bugs. Do what I do. Always install/upgrade ONE WHOLE REVISON behind where they are. If they release FC2...then you install FC1. FC1 with all the patches (over 200 of em) is not bad.

    MacOS is an OS

The point being is that packages built for one OS are not nessessarily compatible with other OS's (even other LINUX based OS's).

Use a 4 processor motherboard, with PCI-X cards (4 of em). And a CRAPLOAD of memory and you really could have a 4 player UT2004 game with latency being almost nothing...

The only wildcard I suppose is whether the combined bandwidth of 4 ATI X600's or Geforce (latest) cards would saturate the PCI-X bus.

    Any comments?

I have no doubt that both democrats and republicans both think they have the country's best interest in mind. It seems though, that neither trusts the other enough to sit down at a table to try an understand WHY their opposites think the way they do.

Instead each side assumes that the other side will do anything it can to undermine them and so...they do the same.

The result is people like Michael Moore and Rush Limbaugh that would not even consider sitting down with each other because each refuses to believe they would get fair treatment from each other.

Although many would laugh at me for saying this, but this type of atmosphere can lead over time (decades) to an environment that leads to civil war. NO...that's not going to happen in the U.S. today, but if people are not willing to talk to one another and listen to each other's concerns without the insults, it will eventually.
