It's been a serious issue that everytime I move I seem to be moving STACKS of magazines for no particular reason! The last time I moved I came across magazines that got moved from the PRIOR MOVE!
It would be nice if all those National Geo's would vaporize after a set period. My back would certainly feel much better!
Why does these systems have to be SO overly complicated!
I could take a PII 400 Mhz (which is probably overkill). Get a bunch of dumb serial terminals. Design an IDIOT simple menu screen for voting....attach a dot matrix printer to print out each vote as it happens and get a very reliable system for voting (It would be almost trivial to build a slackware box for this purpose).
Am I being overly simple in my design? Arrogant? Would something that simple work?
It would be nice if Mozilla composer could save in XHTML....I'd gladly use it if more editors would save in XHTML format.

IPv6 is Here

That's NOT going to happen. IN IPv6 you are not allowed to take your address with you to another ISP. All address blocks assigned by almighty on high are only to be given to tier 1 and possibly tier 2 providers. These Tier 1 and Tier 2 providers then subnet the v6 address space to their customers.
DNS becomes MUCH more important. Since that is the only thing you will be able to take with you if you move ISP's.
This was done to keep the internet backbone routers clean of having to deal with huge routing tables.
Is there a location that has info on how to tweak OpenBSD to be a good Desktop system?
There seems to be a lot of work to get OpenBSD working as a decent Desktop system. It would be nice if somebody had all the steps needed on some website in a concise list.
When Redhat said that Fedora was going to be a Bleeding edge distro that was for people who are looking at using the latest often BETA software..it seems that people just did'nt believe them!
Fedora IS NOT a distro who's goals are SuSE or Mandrake. It's buggy BECAUSE it's got software they are trying to test.
If you REALLY want to use Fedora but don't want to deal without most of the bugs. Do what I do. Always install/upgrade ONE WHOLE REVISON behind where they are. If they release FC2...then you install FC1. FC1 with all the patches (over 200 of em) is not bad.
1. Driving to the CD store (gas) 2. Taxes 3. How much is your "time" of getting to the store worth?
Honestly? The cheapest way to buy music is to go to Amazon (or some other re-seller) and buy it used after a couple of months. It's dirt cheap. The only danger is of course getting a scratched CD.
In it's current configuration it would not really work..
But....
Use a 4 processor motherboard, with PCI-X cards (4 of em). And a CRAPLOAD of memory and you really could have a 4 player UT2004 game with latency being almost nothing...
The only wildcard I suppose is whether the combined bandwidth of 4 ATI X600's or Geforce (latest) cards would saturate the PCI-X bus.
Any comments?
Is this even possible with bleeding edge hardware?
Can somebody point me to where the ACTUAL official notice from US-CERT is that recommends NOT using IE? I would love to forward it to the head of my agency, but forwarding a link to slashdot is not going to hack it.
I looked on the US-CERT website but could not find it.
It's amazing how many people are so freaking closed mind about anything real does. Real has been doing opensource for a couple of years now trying to fix the problems and complains. Yes, they did listen to the complaints.

but they've removed it

ad nausium....come on people. Don't base your opinions on software 2 years old. Try the freeware and newest stuff. Then evaluate it
Whoa...with one GPU power requirement being a 500W power supply. Where the Hell am I going to get a power supply to run two of these beasts. Soon my PC is going to draw more than the beer fridge!
Media personalities, politians, regular citizens...it does not matter, ALL need to be able to sit down and talk things through without vitriolic hate and WITH respect for another's views even if they differ.
It seems that both sides...the left and the right seem to have gravitated to the view that the ends justifies the means. If you have lie, cheat, steal, misinform, omit, denigrate, insult amd some say..murder...its OK because your cause is a right and just one.
I have no doubt that both democrats and republicans both think they have the country's best interest in mind. It seems though, that neither trusts the other enough to sit down at a table to try an understand WHY their opposites think the way they do.
Instead each side assumes that the other side will do anything it can to undermine them and so...they do the same.
The result is people like Michael Moore and Rush Limbaugh that would not even consider sitting down with each other because each refuses to believe they would get fair treatment from each other.
Although many would laugh at me for saying this, but this type of atmosphere can lead over time (decades) to an environment that leads to civil war. NO...that's not going to happen in the U.S. today, but if people are not willing to talk to one another and listen to each other's concerns without the insults, it will eventually.

Gee...I can think of one other motivation...
Survival

Hey! I had no idea Sun made Tables...
Says here that it's a "Sun Enterprise 6000"
but the picture is of a table...awsome name for a table if ya ask me!
Just like the way they explained how Klingons looked differently than the old series...
They ignore it.

Since NSA already has a guide for Securing WinXP...which part of the government is authoritative on recommendations?
u ID =scg10.3.1.1
Here is the link to the page for NSA's Windows XP security Guide (And others)

Your point about dowloading software for specific distributions is totally correct.
LINUX is a kernel NOT an OS.
RedHat is an OS
SuSE is an OS
FreeBSD is an OS
MacOS is an OS
The point being is that packages built for one OS are not nessessarily compatible with other OS's (even other LINUX based OS's).

1. Driving to the CD store (gas)
2. Taxes

I wonder how this would affect IPv6 deployment since address space in IPv6 is subnetted to customers from a cider block given to Tier 1 and 2 ISP's...
Flat files are the wave of the future. If I can't grep it...I don't want it.
Plain ole ASCII flat files. Best database ever!

Get Real codec from the propriatary player...copy library to free player....and the codecs work.
Took me 3 min

Hey What gives! The torrent trackers are offline...does anybody know what the problem is?
Who's "moral issues" are we talking about? His or YOURS!
Many people do not know that OS2200 which operates on the UNISYS Clearpath systems is a direct decendant of the original Univac OS.
I was an operator on a 2200 class system in the early 90's.
As mainframes go, it was pretty cool!
Just curious.....is there a port of the linux kernel to the i860 architecture?
Or does NetBSD or something like it support it?
