  1. Canada on Computer Model Reveals Escape Plan From Poverty's Vicious Circle · · Score: 1

I live in canada where we have the evil socialist health care system where if you are sick and go to the hospital you don't pay anything. This is obviously a system where someone is trying to trick people. There must be a hidden cost somewhere..... Sarcasm if you didn't notice. I had cancer it did not cost me a dime! Yes I pay more taxes. I thank god I do because I love the fact that when I am sick I don't have to worry about the costs of my healthcare.

I will be the first to admit I don't have any studies to back this up only 15 years of teaching. The biggest impact of smaller classes is the fact that I know and can respond to individuals better. If I have a class of 25 students I end up knowing them all much better than if I have 35. This also allows me to differentiate the instruction to fit each student. Now I teach grade 5 so this probably does not help much. However also being a father of 4 I want my kids to be inspired and cared for at school. This means the teachers must have a good relationship with each of the students. So while I don't have any studies or papers to back up my opinion I hope my years of experience do carry some weight. I would love ipads in my class but only if they could print!

As a cancer survivor the surgery to remove the tumour sucked. Actually the whole experience was not great. However if they have a way of removing it without cutting me up I am all for it. One less thing to recover from! The only good thing was thank god I live in Canada. I had time off work with pay and the entire treatment was free. So while having cancer was bad at least it didn't bankrupt my family.

Ok first I am biase because I am a teacher..... I think that one of the most important things being over looked with all the current movements is the social learning that happens in a school. Those of the most valuable things I can do with a child is help them learn coping mechanisms and problems solving skills. When they have a problem with another student or me it is a golden opportunity to learn something valuable. This is not measured or tested. I am glad my own children go to school and have to learn this.

I am a teacher and I agree. The fact is that since we have exams that our students have to take we will have a rote system. We will not produce problem solvers. That is the emphasis that the public has put on us as teachers. In various places I work it is always about the exams and how our students placed in them. We will realize that exams are not everything and we need to produce independent learners at some point. However it is important to remember that our elected officials are the one who decide how our schools work. If you don't like it don't blame the school blame the idiot you elected! Oh and yes there are bad teachers out there but most I have encountered are caring people who work their ass off!

You have a good point. With Linux I have had bad experiences with drivers and hardware not working. Then I had to try to monkey around typing in commands I did not understand to try to get it to work. I am just not interested in doing that and I think most people are not. Don't get me wrong I think Linux is a great idea and I hope it continues. Right now it just isn't for me. I teach grade 4 so this stuff is really not my area.

I understand why companies have and want to protect their ideas but maybe there should be an independent review board that can look at this stuff and figure out a way that both Samsung and apple can get paid for their ideas. Some common sense has to prevail at some point in time! Oh wait I am sorry I take all that back. Common sense what was I thinking!

This is the truth. I just wish I could BYOD at my workplace. They bought us dell netbooks! OMG I refuse to use a computer if I have to use that. I can't even see the screen. Fortunately I can get away with not using a computer at my job for a lot of things. Right now what I do is bring my own laptop and work on it but I don't connect to the network at all. That is better than using that piece of crap they bought teachers. (I am a grade 4 teacher btw). I am so upset about that netbook that I am seriously thinking about sending it back to the IT department and saying give it to someone else I don't want it. I wonder what they would say to that.
