The model you describe is why I don't and will never buy DRM encumbered content. I see movies marked as "bait" (I shit you not; actual sticker saying the word "bait", in Danish) and a DKR 10,- price tag ($1.50)... ok, they were very old movies, but I can't even rent a movie for that little money. I wouldn't even bother to copy or download a movie. An empty DVD is about the same price!
Furthermore, notice how prices in iTMS does not go down? Yes, it's instant gratification and all that marketing bull.. but old U2, Madonna or other 'older' albums go for a lot less than the asking price on iTMS, without DRM, with implicit backup, any format you like.. and resale value!
All in all, pricing content for digital distribution is totally wrong; it has to be so cheap, that I woun't bother making backups, that I will tell friends and family to buy the content themselves instead of asking me to give them a copy.. But, it woun't happen any time soon.
"WARNING: Will NOT play on iPod" will be understood by 99% of the population, resulting in lost sales. "Contains ENHANCED DRM" will also be undersood by 99% of the population.. as something good.. it's ENHANCED, right?
"You don't have to pay for the four filler tracks on every album."
The reason we have to pay for four filler track on every album is; the Single does not exist anymore.. there is nowhere to put the tracks that are not good enough for the Album. Now, with iTunes, it'll be even harder to push theese track down the consumers throat
..most people don't care about Ogg Vorbis...eventhough Apple have sold a lot of songs, most people don't care about DRM...what is FM Radio in this day and age? I remember it from my teenage years when they didn't play the same 15 songs for weeks. 15 songs in your pocket? Does that make sense? Keep your radio, please!..if there was a corrolation between sexuality and iPod purcases, 75% of the population would be gay.
replacable batteries... most people don't need this. But you CAN buy replacement batteries. wifi/bluetooth... no need yet.. most people don't even know what it is let alone configure it FM... buy an add-on if you need a radio. record... again, buy an add-on. SD reader... again and angain, buy an add-on ogg,flac... mp3,aac or wav is fine thank you very much..
What I am trying to say is, that I do not expect any of theese things to be part of the iPod for the simple reason, that most people don't need them and that the ones that do, will buy an add-on.
One thing is for sure though; the next generation of iPods will make the current generation look like something from the stoneage.
You are so right. I forgot about databases and graphics.. Should they be included in "Level one" though?
If people in general could just get to level one.. (well, Microsoft's market would crash)
The OS IS the GUI, if you use Windows (or Mac for that matter).. and as a large part of the population haven't reached level one, there is some way to go before we have a world where you can choose between the GUI and the OS is not joined at the hip. Yes, on Linux you can choose your GUI, but I would consider that a special case... didn't Apple sue some (Linux) GUI group for making a Macintosh look and feel GUI for Linux?..
The Computer is not the big box on the table The Harddisk is not the big box under the table The Color of the box does not matter It's not "how many RAM's" but "how much RAM"
Level one is realizing that
Text editing is not Word Spreadsheet is not Excel Presentation is not Powerpoint Communication is not Outlook News is not Explorer The Internet is not WWW
i.e. realizing what you don't need a specific program to fullfill a specific task.
In that environment, I'm no longer buying music as it no longer has high value and has no resale value.
Until recently, I hadn't thought about this point.
I avoid DRM protected music because it forces me to to take backups (CD's don't) and is of far lower quality than CD's. Furthermore, my insurance will cover my CD collection.. I doubt they will cover my iTunes library...
I've never sold any of the CD's that I've bought.. but I have bought used CD's and I have given CD's to friends and family after losing interest..
"Resale Value" is definately on the list of reasons not to buy DRMed music..
There were no reason for apple to discontinue the mini 9 months ago, it was selling like hotcakes. BUT, there was no room for it in their pricing policy.
Limit the customers coice, making it easier to select the product that he can afford.. ($50 separation between products, priced from around $100 to $400)
Simple design goes further than you think at first....is it possible to patent something like this?
Depending on where you live you can apply one of several ways to produce cheap hydrogen. Sun, wind, water, algae, geothermal, waves or exchanging hot and cold ocean water (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean_thermal_energy _conversion)
There is always something that will work for you, locally. But, as long as cars running on hydrogen (or even just hybrids) are insanely expensive, the "Hydrogen Echonomy" is only going to take off in a government supported (and rich) environment.. like Iceland.
A nuclear power plant is a very expensive enterprice and will only be build after "we" have started using more and more Hydrogen.. even though it probably is the cheapest way to get hydrogen in the long run..
I hope the gas prices keep going up (in Europe the price is around $7/gallon, so I have no idea what that SUV thing everybody is talking about is...) If gas prices keep going up, people will start thinking, demanding alternatives...
Why don't I get a huge tax break if I buy a car that goes 100 kilometers on 3 liters of gas? Why is a simple electric car impossible to get hold of? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_RAV4_EV) There are several engine improvements out there (http://peswiki.com/index.php/Directory:Engines)
I quit TV 6 years ago. Today I speak Spanish as a 3rd language.
But I have NO idea what people are talking about, when they talk about the newest commercials, talkshows or similar "context" that is part of my native language.
The addition to the rule in the case of Spain is:
Los menores de 15 años no podrán practicar el sexo con los mayores de 18
Which means that kids can fool around with eachother, but grownups have to stick to grownups.
Maybe there are similar rules for the countries with very low (compared to the 'norm') ages of consent?
.. with the twist:
.. 15.
Los menores de 15 años no podrán practicar el sexo con los mayores de 18
Hence; for all intent and purpose, the Spanish age of consent is
This would've been legal in other countries, like Spain for example.
.. and that's Japan.
The age of consent in Spain is 15.
The lowest age I know about is 14
yes it will. As a infrigment lawsuit.
+1 interesting!
