    Since Christianity is primarily the New Testament, could you please cite locations where it is violent? Seems I recall that when Peter went all hot-headed and sliced off an ear (obviously going for the head), Jesus healed the ear and said "enough". Then there's that ole "do unto others as how you would have them do unto you" bit. Oh, and all the talk about forgiveness, turn-the-other-check, etc. Several other examples can easily be found which show that it is NOT violent.

    Believe there was a group of folks that occupied the area where the English channel is now. Sea levels rose, and inundated them. Can't find the evidence where they were driving SUVs though...

    Look up "sunken lumber"--lots of logs became waterlogged and sank, and are now being harvested in very sound condition. Bury the trees and they stay sound. Wasn't the big enviro-cry earlier that "nothing decomposes in landfills"? Just because a tree dies, doesn't mean it will always rot. Heck, if you're that worried, take the logs out to the sahara (or other similar desert) and dump them and let them desiccate....

    One of the proposed "screwed up pattern" was an increase of moisture in W Africa, north towards the Sahara. Thus increasing arable land in the savanah; not mentioned, but sounds like this *would* increase cacao cultivation area northwards as well...

    Figure out how to give them a valid career path.

    This. I worked with a bunch of B-52 Navs, very disgruntled. Biggest (valid) gripe I heard was "no future in the AF". Pilots were a little better, but morale pretty much stunk.

    Another anecdote: I work at another large aerospace corporation (co-located, not as an employee). Everyone there is griping that their premiums, that used to rise by 10-15%, are now going up 20-30% or more. And the coverage is now less.

    And when it was warmer, the savanna extended further into the Sahara. If this repeated, some dirt-poor African countries might be more able to feed themselves. Heck, this might even lessen conflict in those same areas. But this doesn't fit the "Global Warming is a total CATASTROPHE" propaganda...

    Not sure about cows, but pig that have escaped from custody are a very large problem and breed like crazy in the woods around here. So I'd guess pigs would do very well w/o humans..

    Or President. The latest congress has wimped out on standing up to their rights & responsibilities under the Constitution. Thus, the Imperial Presidency now writes regulations beyond its powers without fear of any backlash. See EPA (Climate Change regs, regardless of how you feel about the issue), USDA (See recent Forest Service article), TSA, DHS, etc for more examples.

    Having in the past evaluated proposals for a $100K SBIR, and seeing what lengths a (sometimes not-so) small business will go through to get said contract, I don't see why it would be anything different for a researcher to go through similar hoops for a grant for "whatever-I-believe-in" (or "whatever-keeps-me-employed"), right or wrong.

    When wages/cost-of-employment get too high (from union or obamacare or whatever reason), that cashier will find himself replaced with a self-checkout lane. The medical-profession employee, as long as she doesn't cost too much, gets to keep her job.

    If it is about to attack you, you do. Especially if, by doing so, you can effectively destroy you opponents ability to attack you in the"near term". The US has 12 carrier groups; not sure who is next, but they don't have anywhere close to that. China has, what 1, maybe 2 in the near future? (Actually, right now they have none; but they're trying to establish the capability) If you're Taiwan, and you had that capability, you bet they blow a $1T weapon to keep from being overrun. Compared to annihilation, $1T is cheap.

    Agree. I needed a replacement cord for a printer. With prime, I got the thing cheaper than gas money to the local store. Plus, since I lived near a distribution center it was quicker (I usually got things the next morning from an evening order).

    Yep, sure are. . Look at all the folks (& politicians) who were claiming that typhoon in the Philippines is proof of AGW. With the solution being a transfer of wealth from 1st world countries to "the poor" countries.

    Which 20 $800 items are you talking about? I keep my vehicles until they drop dead. For the first 15 years I *may* have to replace a clutch ($500) at 200,000 miles. Other items are wear items that would exist on either vehicle (brake pads, wiper blades, tires, etc). Over 30+ years I have *never* had any $8000 item to replace. Heck, even rebuilding an engine at 300,000 (head gasket wore out--rest of the engine was in great shape) cost less than $3000... I would love an electric or gas/diesel electric... but the economics aren't there yet.
