    Honduras (#1 city) requires each firearm to be licensed (& renewed every 4 years). Can only have 5 firearms, each must be registered (including ballistics info). Only allowed on private property, not carried in public. Automatic & "Assault" weapons are prohibited. Must be purchased from "La Armeria" (govt run). Sounds like what gun control folks dream about. Obviously it works...

    When I had to visit the contractor I was overseeing in the LA area, I did it all the time. Wasn't uncommon to come straggling in to work on a monday morning, find something blew up over the weekend, and had to arrange flight, get orders cut, get to airport (we always had a go-bag packed...), fly to LAX/Ontario/Orange County, get the rental car, and drive to the contractor. Didn't take 8 hours to do all of that...

    That may be the dumbest excuse to oppose technology I've ever read. If you fly, ride the bus, train or cruise ship, other people control where you go.

    To me that's my biggest fear of a completely automated transport system. Think NSA, CIA, FBI, etc. I used to think that was strictly the realm of conspiracy theorists and bad sci-fi, but the last decade has changed my mind. Yes, fly (commercial; private pilots can still have freedom),bus/train/etc, but I still have a *choice* of my own vehicle.

    And to be honest, though my hearing is fine I like having the captions (watch it on phone in bed while wife is sleeping). So if netflix doesn't do CC and Amazon does, I'm more likely to keep Amazon then netflix when the $$'s get tight. Capitalism works.

    I remember one of my EE classes (microprocessors class? it's been several decades) was basically "how to design and build a PDP-8 using logic gates". One of the more interesting classes I took. Building up the thing from various blocks gave good insight. So, yes, it can be valuable to "resurrect" old hardware.

    According to one lawyer I was doing business with, all you have to do is put the "tm" whenever you use it. It's not perfect, but shows that you intend for it to be a trademark. Cost: $0.00

    ditto about the land line metering. At one time I had a choice of even metered local service (could save a few cents over unlimited local).

    There's a cost for the "pipe", but how much does the "water" cost? If the cost is negligible, than it makes more sense to pay for the size of the pipe & not the amount of water flowing through it. In some places it may make sense, others not so much. (I used to be in a place that did not charge for the amount of water I used) Also I pay for a connection to my TV provider, not by how much I use (disregarding ppv/etc). Not saying pay-per-bit is good/bad...

    'fraid that is *NOT* what I said. I said that I don't know either side personally, but if you bring in a lawyer to restrict speech, I find that lessens that side's credibility. Regardless of which side is which.

    What's pejorative about "swamp cooler"? It's just a heck of a lot easier to say in casual conversation then "evaporative cooler". Is calling that 4-wheel thing out in a parking spot a "car" worse than calling it an "automobile"?
