You would think they would optimize for profit. But hatred/bigotry/"save the planet" sometimes gets in the way. Think of the Southern businesses that wouldn't do business with "colored folk" in the past. Now look at CNN, who's news is so unreliable that their viewership is in decline. If you optimize for profit you would make a point not to offend as many customers as possible. If you "make enough", then it's tempting to push your bias. Sometimes it works (Google[youtube]--at least for now), sometimes it
doesn't. Counterexample: MSNBC. They used to be a left-leaning news operation. Then they made the decision to go even harder left and be the voice of liberals. This increased their viewership--middle/right wing folks never really watched them anyways. So will this (youtube) work? Google makes so much money, they can afford to show bigotry (not so much the flat-earthers; this will morph into "anyone who doesn't toe the liberal line"...kind of like Microsoft did with their new-checker. Buzzfeed being reliable? Don't make me laugh!
How about the California politicians? Either for not allowing PGE to run their operation, or for not enforcing laws/contracts that PGE breaks? Or both? Either way, it's the fault of those CA politicians (and the idiots who keep voting for them).
Oh, and be sure to take a knife with you, because some species won't open their cones unless fir melts off the resin. So, you're gonna have to open the cones for them. Also, some pines, if you don't burn them, will let a fungal disease spread and kill the seedlings. So you're going to need some scissors to cut off the diseased needles. At least they're down low. Be sure to be done by dinner!
Sorry, Evolution in Action. If you're driving those roads, you should be aware of what you're getting into and not depend on a mapping program. You get an idea of the route then you CHECK IT OUT by other data. That also keeps you off of single-track roads in the Rockies in winter, too. Heck, I've found GoogleMaps not that accurate for time on US regular highways. Especially if it starts throwing wreck-delays and such in there.
I was going down a gravel "highway" in Colorado several years back. It was in such good condition I looked down and found I was going 65 MPH. (I usually let the road conditions adjust my speed). Got scared, and slowed waay down. But the conditions let me go that fast.
Fruit. Pods. As long as you plant the seed contained within. Not all plant matter that is consumed is detrimental to the plant. (now let me get back to my bacon...)
Redwoods ARE fast-growing trees, like many conifers. And you can readily "sequester" the carbon in decks, fences, conference tables, etc. And then grow more...
Besides, you only have to worry about unlicensed Sony IP on your device. If it detects any (or thinks it does), it will ramp up the laser power until your face is burnt to a crisp. Easy fix: Take a sharpie and mark over the outside rim of the laser lens.
That's pretty much true about most (all?) lifetime warranties. It's more the lifetime of the manufacturer (or even just that particular line) than the lifetime of the purchaser.
Recognizing that people (and animals) tend towards selfishness, and basing your * system around that *fact* (I assume you believe in darwinism--you know, survival of the fittest?) results in a more successful system that those who base their * system on the fantasy that everyone will look out for someone else. So you assume everyone is looking out for #1, and pit those forces against each other and (hopefully) balance them out. Kinda like the Constitution was originally set up as. See multiple examples world-wide for failures to consider that fact.
I agree, not right now. But people retire and get replaced, and many times complacency starts rearing its head. Innovation stops, and someone else starts eating at their market share. Or the market changes (two generations ago who would have thought we'd be using this "internet" thingy to buy stuff?) But right now, yeah, it looks like Amazon is a going concern.
As a kid I always preferred the JCPenny catalog for toys than Sears. And Wards was pretty lousy (if they had any at all). But JCPenny never sold Bees or chickens.
How many things can you buy locally? Well, we have a Dollar General, and that's about all. No, that IS all. (There is a Wal-Mart, but it's still a drive, and the stuff I buy on Amazon is not available at that city locally owned or not.) So it would actually take more time (arrange for day-off, plan route, drive 200+ miles, etc) to get the stuff that you can't get at that Wal-mart at a "real" store. And you'll pay a LOT more than $99/year shipping! Not everybody is in a large city.
It's good enough, I can usually find what I need; Wal-mart, who could be a big competitor, has an abysmal search. Duckduckgo/google will find things easier on the walmart site than walmart's own search engine. I really want wal-mart (or someone else) to get decent to give Amazon some competition.

But...Socialism will fix all our problems! AOC told me so!!

Got a 1000 acres out there need--Here's your rake! (Oh be sure not to disturb the other vegetation)
Needs to be that big so the target thinks it's just a comet and not a thermonanitenucleardinwmill bomb that will destroy the earth. We're doomed.

A lot of people *like* Phoenix...
I was wondering how long until someone turns this to orange-man-bad. Answer: 3 posts.

What, and deprive the fungi/molds/etc from needed nutrients?!? You inhumane beast, you!

Google is your friend. You can even ask Siri to convert to your preferred units of choice if you're that bored on a long commute.

If they can't handle the volume, and it's making money for them, they will increase the volume. Or someone else will get in to handle the money.
