This problem is in one of the most liberal areas in USA. Besides grabbing $$'s/regulation outside their city, why can't they fix the problem in their own city?
Before you "kill capitalism" you may want to check all that insulation, efficiency, transport behind the Iron Curtain in the old days, or Venezuela and Cuba in the current age.
Actually strip mining takes mountains and puts them into valleys. (Remove top non-coal layers, dump them in the valley, then dig out the coal.) "Makes new flat land you can actually use" is the mantra usually used. I don't live in WV, so will not spout my opinion.
If you go in for all that "human breed" stuff (IMHO we're all "Human" race), Egyptians are considered "white"....so are Jews. Whatever, I don't care how much melanin is in your skin.
"professional grade" usually means "not as many fancy stuff, but can take a beating". Despite what they think, most consumers don't want "pro-stuff"--they prefer the bells & whistles.
I'm pro-border control. I am also pro-immigrant. LEGAL immigrant. Make the requirements high, and skim off the best folks from around the world. And history shows that border walls do work (unless you're a 1930's frenchman). Not perfect, but look at the total number of successful crossings in Germany, the rest of the iron curtain, great wall of China, Hadrian's wall, and the current famous intra-Korean wall (i.e., DMZ). Heck, even the wall down in San Diego--it forced the illegals to go into the desert to cross. Just because you're not 100% effective doesn't mean you don't do it.
Seems like UI is driven more by "artists" then by functionality. Another enterprise level package did a major update. The UI is all fancied up and "purty", but the amount of info I can see is now drastically limited. I don't need pretty that gets in the way of doing my job. So I use the old interface and will do so until it's taken away.
Just about anything that starts with the word "international" is political. And if IPCC does compile "recent papers", how does it take the politics of those papers into account? I tend towards agnosticism--climate change is too political on both sides to know what research is true and which is just crying wolf. On Both Sides! One clue: When global warmist believers start having all their meetings virtual, and start calling for measures that don't enrich themselves (power or money), then they become more believable. Until then, true or not, I don't put much credence in their "findings". The other side doesn't have much power.
And what about that civilization that lived in what is now the English Channel (or there-abouts; too lazy to look up exactly where in that area, but they made a big deal a few years ago about that area being above sea level)?
Find some valuable resource worth extracting* down there and there will be folks living down there. Or find some reason for trade routes to go through there (and need some kind of support) and the same will occur. Otherwise you won't find folks living anywhere. For example, see multitudes of mining towns and interior ports that have come and gone. As for Mars? Right now I don't see either. *Knowledge qualifies. And there are people down there permanently. For some value of "permanent". Just don't tell your neighbor how the book turns out!
Is there an (updated) link to the current hierarchy of oppressed? Wouldn't want to make an honest mistake and find a ring of antifa brownshirts around my house.
If we could keep socialism/rampant regulation/etc out, sure I'll give up any $'s coming from CA. It would be a net-plus, both liberty-wise AND economic wise. Any $'s coming from CA are much offset by increased expenses from regulations/etc from CA congressmen & their ilk.
Another source of loss of wealth was Grant & Co. They didn't only want to conquer the South, but destroy it. They would burn every city they came to in the Vicksburg/Atlanta campaigns. Some of the stories from that time were pretty despicable. I had the opportunity to talk with a very old lady in Port Gibson (supposedly "too pretty to burn"); her grandmother told her of how they had to hide anything that had any worth due to the pillaging and looting of the union army. So by the time the War Between the States (it was never a civil war) was over, the South had lost a good percentage of its infrastructure. And unlike Europe post WW2, there was no "Marshall Plan" equivalent. Instead we got "reconstruction" (i.e., colonialism).
The Govt has compromised my personal data at least 4 times that they've let me know about. No telling how many times they hadn't told me or don't know that it's been compromised. I might as well put an add in a newspaper giving out my SSN--it would let fewer folks know. Remember this whenever the Gov wants to put your info in some type of database. It WILL get out. Many times.
In the article it mentions their definition of life includes "must be able to evolve". But is that true, and do we really want this synthetic 'life' to evolve? If we can keep it from changing, then we run less risk of releasing something into the wild that's potentially dangerous.

$100,000
I recall in one of those documentaries labeled MiB that there was a race that used rather small spaceships....

There's some pretty high cliffs along the Oregon coastline...

His company can bid on it, too.

In many areas it's a 15 minute walk (or jog) to the property line. But thanks for the insult.
100% agree. I've got one (used to use a bunch of boxes)--not for any health benefits, just because they were more comfortable than sitting all day.
Or the lifetime-appointed judges who rule how they feel is correct, despite explicit language in the Constitution to the contrary.
Too late.

Gaining: See Southern Border. Losing: See NV, TX, AZ.
Soon your comment disparaging the NYT will be considered "hate speech" and will be censored. True or not, it doesn't matter.
