    to be fair, it took them more than a week to crack it, but now that they've cracked it a hotspot password can be cracked in 50 seconds. a big difference I think.

    generally speaking it doesn't work well at all. it is very very slow and chokes to death on moderately complicated spreadsheets.

    I HAVE REPORTED YOU TO SLASHDOT AUTHORITIES FOR CYBERBULLYING. and if you think there's no difference between 999 and 1000, then i would be happy to sell you things for 1000, buy them myself for 999, and keep the profit! i'm sorry that you have a bad home life or whatever, but if you read your posts throughout this thread you'll see an intellectual inconsistency, and frankly, dishonesty.

    look if i need a windows laptop then i'm going to get a windows laptop. if it's a POS normally and only becomes a windows laptop when plugged in, i might as well just get two devices or a desktop comptuter for that matter!

    Imagine laptops and tablets that could run full windows and Linux when plugged into the wall but when on battery you would switch into "uber battery" mode and get ARM battery life with none of the downsides...who wouldn't want to buy that?

    sounds like a crappy experience - a windows "laptop" that sucks when not plugged in? "no thanx" said the world!

    i think that's fine, but you're forgetting the second part of this - the person who downloads is at risk of being tracked too. similarly, if you download then upload again, then it's more exposure. lots of it is FUD, but imho very convincing fud.

    not surprised by the results of this test... att has always worked well for me, except in certain situations like being in a tunnel. maybe it's different for droids?

    just when the internet seemed to get its act together...goog adds another set of codecs and even forks webkit into their own thing! yet another layer of incompatibilties, i have to code around. thanks goog I hope this helps your shareholders.

    I am referring to the setting that, enabled by default in 10.8 and beyond, does not let you install anything but from the Apple App Store.

    this statement is false. it does not exist. stop trying to spread lies and hate.

    And the tool called GateKeeper on MacOS has a Windows equivalent that warns you when you are installing something that seems to be dangerous.

    it warns you if your software doesn't have a developer signature, which goes through apple and requires the developers to sign up for free. also, on the strict and medium setting it doesn't warn you, it prevents you from doing it.

    That depends on your country's exchange rate with USD and whether you're getting paid for your work. If you're not getting paid, your time is worth $0.

    wrong! my time is extraordinarily valuable. 18 hours of awake time in the day, 10 hours working, 2 hours commuting, 4 hours dealing with kids, 2 hours for me. very precious, and whatever i dedicate them to is a huge investment. if I invest 100 of these precious hours in a software project, i won't blink at $99, especially since it gives me tools to be more productive.

    true about overseas though, i don't have an answer for that one.

    $99 for access to the largest software distribution system int he world. sounds like a pretty good deal. unless you live in a developing country, surely your investment of time dwarfs this $99 fee.

    well you can run whatever iOS software you want on your ipad, including any you write yourself. so I would say Yes, you can run your own software on the ipad. on the other hand, you can also run a wide variety of software (games) on XBone, presumably you could write one yourself if you want, so the answer is yes there too.
