Seriously... Are registry services going to see fallout due to having to reverse and refund erroneous.org registrations that their servers processed during the outage? This might also depend upon whether their scripts depend upon the PIR servers, and whether the scripts distinguish between "error" and "domain not registered" conditions.
THe backend protocol and the servers for PIR, totally seperate from whois, needs to be online to do registrations, dns changes etc.
It's up to the registrar to tell its customers. "ok, we'll process this asap" or "sorry, come back later."
The whois, the public services may not be tied in directly to the interfaces for registration and other operations (NS changes, contact changes).
Two different protocols. If you had some way of triggering an EPP command (registryregistrar protocol) and show both are up, I'd be a bit more at ease. To be truthful, PIR/Afilias are doing a poor job of running.org. Affilias does well with.info etc.. but.org is really bad.
Rumor has it that there's a whole bunch of open relays out there which are owned by the spamhausen.
Why keep them open? Why would a spamhouse want to share its resources? I'm sure they just distribute their load so isp's don't complain about bandwidth, switch around often, find spam-friendly isp's, etc..
So to relate this to the article, I'd say that a letter from the FTC that doesn't threaten *legal* action will provide no more incentive to these system administrators to close the relays; thus the letters become little more than a waste of paper...
Sometimes, the fact that the gov't says "don't do that" vs Roman Kazan of escape.com (he sux0rs) holds more weight. It's the same respect you show a cop than say, some random stranger. The source of a request always affects how you answer.
Guys, how many times did you let some really cute chick ahead of you vs some random guy? Women, how many times do you do something a little nicer towards a nice looking guy vs some random 15-year old hs'er. There are exceptions to the rules, I know.:P
Careful of any rounding errors. Just stick with one "thing" and be done/w it:)
Reminds me when i worked with sin's/cos's with a particular language. Instead of creating a table of sin's and cos's, which were functions that mapped back and forth properly, i used the actual sin and cos function.
Due to rounding errors, my object would spin and then shrink. Kinda.. amusing.

Is the book printed by miniture machines?
Shouldnt' the font's for when we talk about this be at font size -5? (Suck it you css weenies)
Of course it's hard. You create a banner ad (paper, not computer). Now you have to go to a print shop. Assuming that just two states have different tax rates, you have to double the cost of having two originals.
Now what about non print ads, tv and radio. There are national radio ads. Stupid infinity radio. Anyway, you'd have to all THOSE ads at least twice.
Unless we make it one BIG state instead of a union of states with an even economy, things can be.. sticky. 'sides, who wants to join with connecticut. Damned wasteland. kidding.. maybe:)
Just to add fuel to your correct point.... it, MSN is written for the Mach kernel that Apple has closed sourced, no? The BSD aspect is the subsystem, all those nifty tools.
Carbon and Cocoa (mmmm) are also closed sourced. They have nothing to do with X11.
But.. but.. you have the same command line interfaces. You have fink to install all those other apps. You have X11R6. You have Office et al. I fyou don't wanna deal/w the gui, you can use cli or vice versa.
So.. what are you looking for in terms of productivity?
Speed would be an issue for long compiles, multimedia operations or games, but that's as far as I would go.
Yeah, but you should ask THEM if they say it's not worth it.
I am spending about $40k total on my college ed. Even if I spend $100k, over 30 years, that's $10 every 3 years, or 3600 every year. About $200 a month.
Now, if you make $400 more a month just 'cause of the diploma, you already have $200 extra a month after paying off the loan (monthly). An extra $100k over the 30 years, assuming no raises.
That's IRA, pr0n, wedding, anything else money, and that's after those 30 years. Your investment continues after that too... until 60'ish.
Remember, bootlegging is a culture that the RIAA doesn't like. Granted, it's not the first, but if more and more recorders like this show up, it's quite possible the RIAA will butt in.
Not really. It should be a serious concern. The RIAA probably will be over all of this like it has been all over DRM, protected cd's, mp3's cdwriters and the likes.
After all, stereotypical views usually have a seed of truth, no matter how cynical you are.
Google.com
Easy interface, easy results.
Only when you have something to do
If you can use a very small drill bit and clean out the hole just like a root canal.
Be very slow, very careful and try every so often to see if you can yank out the screw w/o killing the board.
Slow yes, but it'd work.

You know what I meant, damnit. :)
Hopefully we won't have any people trying to rocket jump fresh out of highschool. :)

Nope, you really can't. They aren't source comptabale :) Try again. Light flame. tssssssss

The API's have different names. Openstep was the base

Unfrotunately, for MS bases a lot on usability tests, which are practical in some ways, but Apple seems to do a better job.
Until MS replaces the people in their design staff that says what goes in and what doesn't, Apple will usually be one step ahead.
To quote strongbad.

Did Steve Jobs submit this? I'm disappointed in him. Slashdot is NOT a lawyer or business forum.
You mean +1, Poop :)
For every rule, there is an exception.
It's rougly 3600 .. it's easier to divide 3600 by 12 than 3333 :)
Then your friends wasted their money. Not finishing college or some other educational enhancing facility at all, once you start, is really lame.
That's like getting a subscription to the gym and never going. You give your money and you come out behind.
