I was expecting the software to be around the automation of ripping/encoding a CD, but this text here:
"I have a need to rip about 200-300 CDs in the near future, and I am not looking forward to being a slave to the computer every 4 minutes in order to change the CD in the drive."
makes me think you're looking for something hardware based? No 300 CD drives out there, sorry.
Here's my issue with OpenSource: Bad communication.
Microsoft has put out a product that's decent. Yeah, the hardware control issue is clearly a purely political and non-consumer based decision, but I'm guessing after the initial phase, MS will introduce a package with the OS and remote. Or something similiar. Either way, it's released. I can go buy it, hook it up, and it all works.
On the OSS side, looking through this thread I have 15 links for 15 products that are all 50% of the way there. Some have no recording. Some don't have remote support. Some have issues with schedules. Blah blah blah. It seems that there is a lot of bright people with great ideas....that have NO IDEA that other projects are out there. What's the deal? Isn't the whole mantra of OSS to have a community collaborate and build a better product for that community? Why is there always a massive disconnect between efforts?
Either way, it's frustrating, and not worth the time or effort to sort through.
I do staffing/recruiting/delivery for a packages group of a pretty large IT services company. We will not utilize contractors for any engagements we have for a couple of reasons: * No ownership to the client or team. * Usually no motivation for late hours. * Never will go above and beyond the call of duty. * Always asking "What do I have to do?" instead of working with others and just picking up pieces of work. * NEVER a cultural fit to the group. Even hiring a consultant for full time positions who were once working independant is a red flag. For the same reasons above, they usually never last with the company for more than 3 months. This isn't the case for everyone, but in the last 5 years, it's been the rule not the exception. This was also the case at my last 2 companies. Just my experience...
It looks like all my online purchases are now in jeopardy! Of course, you could just scrounge around the dumpsters behind Micro Center or Best Buy to find my credit card number with entirely less hassle.
You have got to be kidding me.

Your treo already has "push" email as well. It's called IMAP idle. http://www.chatteremail.com/
The iPod mini has a hard drive. I believe you're thinking of the Nano.
This may be impressive, but Linux has the City of Largo, FL. Eat it, MS!

First Gyandooth and then The World!
Watch out Microsoft!!
You didn't read/understand the article. The computer/USB hookup is just for downloading information. The remote controls TV/DVD/VCR/etc.
Nice review. I'll stick with my man Ebert:

And agree that the movie was awful.
Shut you fucking hole, and take it somewhere else, fucktard.
HAHAHAHAH!! Ogg Vorbis. Replacing mp3's.
I think you all should come out of your holes and look around.
Well, I believe CNet is primarily owned by Microsoft, so, uh, yeah, they have something going with them.

I found this news pretty damn funny, actually. Two important things to note:
1) Everyone on IRC but myself is an FBI agent.
2) "hotseattle" is one hell of a funny nick.
