If your tax money went to SpaceX, it would convert them into a government-sponsored institution and would be doomed to be plagued by inefficiencies that do not exist in the purely private sector.
"Welcome, gentlemen, to Aperture Science. Astronauts, war heroes, Olympians--you're here because we want the best, and you are it. So: Who is ready to make some science?"
They're in space. The 3D-printed plastic shape is not competing with a metal one here. As long as the 3D-printed tool lasts long enough to do the job they need, it's a success.
It still simplifies the inventory situation, which is the main problem when you're in orbit. It's better to have to keep a supply of filament on the space station than having to have an inventory of anything they might possibly need (that could be 3D-printed).
It's clearly insane, but not any less insane than expecting people with no income to be able to buy anything coming out of those factories.
Either you leave the jobs to humans so that they can earn money to spend, or you make everything automated so everyone can have your products for free because your costs are zero.
That's how the Web used to work. Now half the content is ads, another half is links to sponsored products, another half is nudity and pornography and the last half is written by people who can't do math.
Why is it Apple's fault or Apple's problem? First of all these are Foxconn workers. Secondly Foxconn manufactures hardware for a lot of companies, not just Apple.
Fox News is not offering a different viewpoint, they're offering right-wing FUD.
Shut up, Stewie.
It's not just China, all the other countries think the U.S.A. is arrogant.
He's... eh... he's an elephant? - Peter Griffin

It's not a question of distance, it's a question of costs and delays.
How are they supposed to know in advance what they're going to need in the future? They're Astronauts, not Time Lords.
How about you leave my damn content ALONE?

I guess it depends if you see is as "The action of sending a physical object [via email]" or "The action of sending a [physical object] via email".
You cannot send physical objects through email, but what was emailed was not a physical object either.

Quagmire: "Giggity."
Woah there, you're getting way too personal.
Automatically fix the dreaded Vertical Video Syndrome.

That would make it easy to date catgirls and anime characters, wouldn't it?
Count me in!
That was easy.
Would it solve the problem if they made the armour plating part of the battery pack?
Anything that can block spam is a good thing.
Can we say that this new discovery is a Quantum Leap? What do you think, Al?
The name is Blanche, not Blanch.

Since this is Slashdot, let me explain it with cars.
The people who write malware from scratch are programmers. It's the same as engineers creating and designing new cars.
The people who create malware variations with a pre-made tool are not programmers. It's the same as mechanics, people who do engine tuning.
The people who use malware are script kiddies. It's the same as people driving at reckless speeds in your neighbourhood streets.
It seems I should at least read the summary before commenting. Replace Foxconn with Pegatron in my comment above, but the argument still stands.
