The fact is that much of the worlds' art was commissioned, or created for
profit, under direction, or deadline, or was constrained by the technology of
the time. And although most games don't conceal a deep political or
psychological meaning, neither do most paintings adorning the walls of most of
the world's greatest galleries. The best games today evoke emotion, convey
a story or excite the imagination. What more can be expected from Art?
DX8's hardware independence is also looking a bit silly now as they make point releases to support ATI's new hardware. They might as well say D3D-GF3 or D3D-R200 instead of DX8 and DX8.1.
So, I guess, DX8.1 compatibility for GF3 Titanium means exactly nothing, just marketing buzzword.
Here in Poland, where we have GPRS running for some time now, the fastest available GPRS phone (the Motorola Timeport 260) can only do 40.2 kbps and the fastest "conventional GSM" (actually HSCSD) phone (Siemens S40) does 56 kbps.
(both numbers are download speeds, it's asymetric)
So just because the theoretical max for GPRS is 115.2 kbps it doesn't mean you will be getting it - check your phone first.
The author of the article and the guy who submitted the story clearly don't have a clue about Unicode. Unicode can encode over one million characters, as stated here.
Unicode may have its problems, but this is not one of them.
Even Lars von Trier doesn't make his movies according to the rules he set. In fact I think I never heard of a movie that would comply to the Dogma rules. And I'm sure if I did the movie would suck bad.
I think the closest one would be Blair Witch Project. It wasn't so bad, but I wonder if that's what Mr. von Trier had in mind.

Polish company STOEN also started such tests in August. They will last till the end of the year.
:-/)
(Of course the only purpose of these tests is to show that their service won't be available in my area.

That makes my 2nd ed. Red Book even more obsolete. :)

AFAIK, both Titanic and Shrek were rendered on Linux. (They were using Alphas in Digital Domain and Intels at PDI to do it.)
Furthermore, PDI is using Linux *on the desktop* since early 2001.

So, I guess he was wrong, eh?

... let's not fool ourselves.
I know many people who will never buy a CD again because they can get the music in mp3.

What happens when one company holds a trademark on a name which is a substring of another company's trademark?

You can boot the Windows partition you keep "just for Diablo II" and "just for playing DVDs", install QuickTime for Windows and watch the movie.

I have a game called "Diablo" for ZX Spectrum. I wonder if the company that made it still exists so it could sue Blizzard.
And you can search IMDb to see many movies with "diablo" in their titles (maybe that's because "diablo" is a word from the dictionary).

And you forgot one. Kinetix/Discreet/Autodesk/(whoever they are this week) will be releasing an OpenSource version of the Max modeller.
Are you sure it's gonna be open source?
I thought it was only going to be free as in beer.

We need a Dreamcast port of MAME. This would mean over 1500 new games for the dying console. :)
