    Okay...
    Who will pay for the bandwidth?
    Who will pay for the tower space?
    How long will it take to roll out?
    Who will get to use it?
    Hey I am all for broadband but I don't know if government mandated free broadband is such a good idea.
    I just want good reasonably priced fast broadband available to everyone.

    You know there was a time when you got useful software when you bought a computer.
    Osborne and Kaypro both would bundle a good software package back when dino's roamed the earth.

    At least Apple add in iLife.

    Now you get a bunch of demos for stuff and other junk.

    Not bloody likely ore even smart, they would never pull the merchant accounts.
    What they would do is pull their advertising. Totally legal plus far more effective.
    They would also threaten to sue for any "damages" that the show caused since they are teaching people how to break the cards.
    So they could do a show that ticks off their customers BTW you the viewer are not their customer, you are their product. Or run a show that a few people will like. Not doing the show is just good business.
    Oh and not watching Mythbusters anymore? That will just hurt the cast and crew. They will just take it off the air and put on "When Sharks Go Bad".
    Simple but none to comforting truth.

    Yea people don't seem to realize that the crapletts are a source of cash. Dell probably makes a good $30 more installing Windows than Linux.
    I wouldn't mind paying for Windows version if only I could use that copy of XP on a different machine.

    This whole thing is very short on facts as far as I can tell.
    1. Dinosaurs and insects existed together for far longer than humans have been around.
    2. Saying Dinosaur is like saying mammal. There is a HUGE variety in them. The idea that bugs wiped them out seems very far fetched.
    3. Birds are still around and they seem to be the descendant of Dinosaurs.
    So yea this is just a little far out. But then Dinosaurs becoming totally extinct is just way too odd but that did happen well except for the line that became birds.
    I blame Homer.

    No but probably only 20-30 more and
    It will support 1080P playback,
    Has more SATA ports.
    Supports more RAM.
    Supports DX-10. Not that you would want to use it.
    Is a lot faster. It will play some two year old games pretty well.
    That little atom board is fine for websurfing with XP. The problem with Intel solutions on the low end is that the graphics suck.

    Who knows?
    They are not shipping yet as far as I know and Slashdot isn't a review site.

    Right now if you want to build a good low end machine AMD gives you the best bang for the buck.
    The X2s are cheap and the 780G chip set really is very good for onboard graphics.

    Unless you are into gaming, video editing, or heavy transcoding the low end is really good enough for most people.
    Heck even for light video work the low end is probably good enough.

    What a ripe off.
    I just got a Flashdrive demagnetizer. Not some crappy one but an videophile quality one. It cost $856 and worth every penny. You can really see the difference. Well if you have good equipment like my gold plated balanced HDMI cable and my stabilized granite table that I keep my gear on.
    Of course you know the average person is just blind and death and can not hear or see the subtlety that good video and audio gear offer.

    And yes I am soooo kidding.

    Except global warming will not be the end of the world. If "and it has not been proven." that global warming is caused by man then it is no more God will than a war, murder, or child abuse.
    It will be the result of mans free will and as in all things there will be consequence for our actions.
    Global warming isn't a biblical world ending event.
    And while I have not seen proof that global warming is man made. I am all for not pushing our luck. Cutting CO2 sounds like a good plan just in case.

    Yea the idea that China could threaten US chip makers is as dumb as the idea that Korean car makers could compete with Japanese cars.
    The very idea is just silly.
    I bet you would have gotten the same look if in 1965 you said Japanese motorcycle would compete with US an European motorcycles, of if in 1970 you said that Toyota will sell more cars that Dodge!
    Just DUMB.

    Simple.
    Exports. China may or may not want to dump Windows. My guess is that Microsoft sells it to them for pennies. If China had any competing OS they would call it dumping but since they don't they don't care.
    But even if they really wanted to be free of Windows they want to make billions exporting these.

    I mostly agree.
    The problem is that IE is just to big to ignore and is very broken. By the time you get IE working it is just too much work to get real browsers working.

You don't "need" to install an open source nav syst."
    And when you buy a PC it comes with Windows so you don't need to by install Linux, Firefox....
    I do tend to agree with you but I would love to build my own car nav system and see if I could do better than what the car companies are doing.
    Since Google is driving the StreetView Trucks It seems to me as an ideal way to gather GPS data for the streets, Speed limit data, and even the type of roads they are. That data could provide a large amount of free GIS data. Of course if all the states, counties, cities, and towns would just release their GIS data then it wouldn't be needed but I don't see that happening.

    I keep hoping that Google will start releaseing some of their data into the public domain/GPL/Creative Commons.
    That Google spy van must be gathering data like speed limits, which streets are one way. Maybe even which are paved and not.
    One place missing GPL application is a really good navigation system.

    With the Specs it is rocket science.
    RadeonHD? You do know that ATI has contributed A LOT of that code right?
    Intel's FOSS driver? Written mainly buy Intel.
    FOSS drivers are great but they are almost always written with a lot of help from the manufacture. A lot more than just the specs.

    So when a PHD in Biochemist says that Evolution is false because certain chemical reactions are too complex to have evolved what do you?
    Yes I have seen him speak actually really ticked me off. And how does a person know which biochemist to trust?

    But one can believe or take on faith a theory. Which way to many people, the only good thing is in this case they very probably right. Hey I have to always leave open that any theory or principle in science can be proven wrong or incomplete. If you don't then you really don't understand science.
    The thing is most people have no more proof that evolution is correct than those that believe creationism is correct.
    That isn't because creationism is anything but but really bad science or that evolution lacks evidence. It because that vast majority of people have at best a superficial understanding of science. Heck mine isn't as good as I would like to be but what I see what others on slashdot post and indisputable fact I cringe.

    Not really. A lot of people will fall in to the trap of believing in "science" when a their "priesthood" endorses.
    A great example is the anti-nuclear group. They believe the "scientists" that are endorsed by say Greenpeace or some other "Green" group and not believing other scientists that actually have facts.
    The simple truth is that way to many people have faith in evolution because they distrust those that oppose it. Frankly I find that extremely scary because they have the false impression that they are not taking anything on faith when the truth is they really are.
    That is a dangerous case of self deception.
    But the original point is that more science must be taught because the average college grad lacks the knowledge to disprove the creationist scientists and yes some are accredited scientists, which really ticks me off because they should know better!

    Why should I believe you that they are murders if you don't have a clue how many have died?

    When you make strong statement where part of the statment is totally wrong then it is easy to dismiss your entire statment.

    If you massively exaggerate the numbers than why should anyone not wonder if you exaggerate the crime as well.

    I am not saying that your wrong but that the way you expressed yourself blows your credibility.

    Massive exaggeration and opinon hold are a lot less credible than facts and opinion.

    Hey my teacher taught use the theory of spontaneous generation and how it was proven to be not correct.
    The problem is that the many creationist know just enough science that unless you know a lot of science you must take it on "faith" that they are wrong.
    The majority of pro-evolution zealots on slashdot don't have enough science background to disprove a good creationist. Way to often they "believe" what they learned in school.
    Since I do attend church and I am actually pretty good at science I was once invited to a creationist talk.
    They had some very interesting facts but they really didn't understand them.
    One of my favorite was that they found Carbon-14 in diamonds so they couldn't as old as the evolutionist said they where. They really didn't enjoy my lesson on radio active decay and quantum physics.
    But I can tell you this. If you don't know a lot of science then they are totally believable.
    I would bet that a lot of people on Slashdot only believe in evolution because they distrust religious people and not because they actually understand what is wrong with creationism.

    Actually a big part of the problem is that Windows is to expensive.
    The reason that a Linux PC costs about the same as a Windows PC is that the manufactures make enough money of the caplets to pay for Windows.
    Maybe all PCs should be sold naked and then you have to buy what ever OS you want.
    BTW most serves I see are sold that way.

    And I have not problem with creationism being taught as long as it is taught as science. So every bad fact they have can be pointed out.
