If they were "hacked" then the folks who's data was leaked blame the wily hackers. If they let it stand that the data was just freely available on the web, it's a liability to the telecoms involved; i.e. "it's not our fault, it's THOSE guys."

In those cases, you just roll your eyes, add the signature and collect your paycheck.

How do they verify you are who you say you are? Do they require some form of ID? I think here in Alaska you need your voters registration card or a form of picture ID.

You tell them your name and address. They manually cross your name off of a printed list. There is no live database, there is no real checking.

Can you say "ripe for abuse?"

These days, no ID = no vote.

Not in my state. They cannot legally ask for ID at a polling place (not that it'd do any good if they did as you don't even need to be in the country legally to get a DL in New Mexico).

It boils down to work flow. I've got a part time photography business so my experiences are limited to a small portion of the tools in Photoshop. There is a lot of really good processing software available but if I'm editing 10,000 images from a weekend air-show I don't want to be bouncing all over the place trying to get my work done. In the past, they've forced folks into the "next" version by limiting updates to their RAW photo processor. You can keep using the old version of Photoshop but as soon as you upgrade your camera body, you have to change your workflow because your camera is only supported in the new version. Then, once again, it boils down to time.
