Bah, get "The Matrix" instead. And I am able to watch it in Linux, although the sound is desynced.
Check out LinuxVideo under LiVid. Get dvd_play, ac3dec and nist, follow the dvd_play instructions. Unfortunately, you do need lots of CPU cycles since the code is not optimized (oh, and a G200/G400 with BES helps too;-)
If you like to muck with new kernels and don't really have the bandwith learn to use patches PROPERLY, it's not that hard. If not, just stick with your favourite distribution and wait for the next CD release to upgrade.
Splitting the kernel into separate architecture modules is going to be a nightmare for the kernel maintainers. They will have to spend more time maintaining and less time hacking, you don't want that do you? Besides, the archive is only 13MB bzipped2'd now. That's only like 3 full length mp3 songs! Think about that!:)

PS. 'fraid of messing up your kernel tree with patch? Try patch with --dry-run first.
Some time ago I got a pretty good (and IMHO valid) reason why XFRee86 development is 'closed'. First, anyone can apply for developer status as long as you can justify a reason why. Simply applying because you want access to early code or bleeding edge stuff is not going to happen (what's the matter, cutting edge kernels are not enough of a rush?:). Anyway, once you get accepted as an official developer you actually become a member of the XFree86 consortium. This gets you access to information that can possibly be under NDA. Some manufacturers will only give out info under NDA if their product is not yet released to the general product (think Linus at Transmeta). This means the XFree86 crew can get their hands on docs faster then if it were completely open. So, I will wait patiently for the next snapshot if it means getting support for new hardware faster!
Having to use my Voodoo2 instead of my TNT2 Ultra is not good, in my opinion, and I think they could have done a better job on that.
Hello??!! ID is not in the business of writing videocard drivers, they write kick-ass games. Johnc IS helping us write the Matrox G200/G400 drivers but if you need to complain about lacking or inferior TNT2 support you should go knock on NVidia's door.
Yeah, Quake3TEST runs at a full 30fps on my G200 + PII 233, playable. It takes some work (installing agpgart module and such) but it is well worth the trouble.
Yep, just flip the big red switch (make sure you've installed ext3 patches for convenience) and wish the RIAA good luck with examining your/pub/mp3 partition:)

running Debian potato and Netscape 4.x (any version will do) is pure hell! Closing a browser window frequently results in a bus error, ugh!! Looks like it's a glibc 2.1 issue since I can't remember getting this on RedHat 5.2
Okay, it looks like a local GLX problem. Someone from SGI has emailed me requesting more info, mucho cool! It now starts up but crashes as soon as I turn on textures. Hacking on it some more now...thx
Unfortunately it locks up the X server here with the GLX module loaded for my G200 card (http://glx.on.openprojects.net/). Any have better luck? perfly is trying to draw in the root window. -adnans
Why would a company want to pay royalties for the OS when they can just as well use Linux without any sort of royalties *AND* get the source code too?? Be is going to have a very hard time in the embedded space IMO. I mean, this sort of Multimedia stuff is what Be should be doing right? An-ex-Be-fanatic:)
God you're sounding like GNOME folks - everything is "will be". The solution is simple. Don't use ALSA if you don't need to. It doesn't help anyone if you whine about it. And with some soundcards costing around $15 these days, $20 for the driver is NOT a bargain:)
Please don't let/. turn into yet another BeOS News site with continuous reruns every hour! I use www.beoscentral.com myself since they report anything ALL the other Be sites report. There are like what, 20 BeOS news sites, that's more than enough for me.

Get your monitor manual and look up the parameters (max hor/vert refresh rate, etc). I was able to get 1536x1152 @ 95Hz for my Iiyama, veeery nice...

Your suggestion reads like: "complicating matters for the sake of a few impatient h4x0rs". Nope...

That's a good sign :)
This is the first Beowulf machine from the top of the list me think:
:)
Manufacturer: Self-made. Nice

Sorry, I would still like to own the atoms that encode the movie. There's something about having that Matrix DVD on the shelf :-)
Thanks, I'll check it out :)
SheepShaver will take care of that for you.

Hope it works flawlessly on this Hitchachi GD2500 -adnans

Hasn't he been working for PI for a couple of weeks now?
Anyone like to support AlsaPlayer?
Hehe
