    *Any* communication with the moon is going to have a latency of at least 1 1/4 seconds, because the moon is 1 1/4 light-seconds away. Are you seriously faulting this method for not being able to exceed the speed of light?

    The infrastructure in Haiti under normal conditions was perfectly capable or providing drinking water. However, the the UN troops were in Haiti *specifically in response to a natural disaster*. You might expect a disruption in the infrastructure anywhere under those conditions, and if you are sent somewhere to help with a disruption in infrastructure it is reasonable to expect the infrastructure to be disrupted when you get there.

    Wait, what part is the cashier looking at the signature on the back of the CC and what part is the cashier looking at identification? You statement is not clear.

    There are two CVV codes. The CVV2 code is only printed on the card; the CVV1 code is only encoded on the mag stripe. If you get the wrong code of the type of input, the transaction processor can identify a fraudulent transaction.

    The cases where the cashier is manually entering the CVV2 code are on terminals where the mag reader is not talking directly to the transaction network but is filling out a form field. Some places just have a web app as their POS terminal.

    b) seeking a known SSID pre-emptively instead of waiting ofr the AP to broadcast
    c) connecting to a known SSID in the vicinity

    It is seeking out known SSIDs, instead of waiting for the AP to broadcast. This is an otherwise reasonable action in certain situations, e.g. you have just turned on the device or just turned on wifi.
