All MS operating systems SINCE 2000 (with the exception of ME) have built-in IPv6 support. Whistler has it, 2000 (all versions) has it.

That is not totally true. Win2k can use IPv6 but install a technology preview of IPv6 that you have to download from the MSDN developer site.

Meanwhile, the telco was resolutely refusing to offer even ISDN - let alone any form of DSL. If you wanted high-speed internet, you had to shell out $800 a month for a 1.5 Mbit DS1. USWest didn't want to let go of the gravy train.

My phone company (Ameritech) is currently like this. What really ticks me off is Ameritech recently renamed all of their T circuits as DS, and talking to an ISP guy I know I found out why. Ameritech changed the T1 lines to a DSL type line. They dropped their quality of service on anything under a DS3. Ameritech also told me it would take 9 months to get an overpriced DS1 circuit to my house(I live 3000 feet from a CO).

Cable is not any better. It will be two years before AT&T gets digital cable in my area with no mention of net service at all.

The regular PSX can only use CDs, while the PS2 probably requires that it's games only come on DVDs (to prevent piracy).

This is incorrect. The PS2 has two disc formats that are used.
    1) DVD: these have a silver color on the bottom.
    2) CDROM: these are blue on the bottom.

Examples: Evergrace and Kessen were two of the launch titles I purchased on DVD. Moto GP, Tekken, and SSX are CDROM based.
