I see. So, lets say that Malibu is going its safe speed and you are going your safe speed. Now redo the test.
What is the safe speed for the Bel-Air? 0? Reverse? Reverse at the same speed as the malibu?
What the safety ratings have done is to say we are going to test cars this year for 35MPH (Or whatever) frontal offset. We will rate cars based on that and consumers can buy cars after they read the ratings.
I agree. But, like it or not, cars are a huge net gain for society. So by being proactive on safety features and mitigating the risk we get from an inherently unsafe thing such as driving we can have our cake and eat it too.
I'm not sure I agree with you. I think a lot of the regulations came slow... a good example in my opinion is the creation of seat belts laws and the enforcement of them.
http://www.iihs.org/laws/SafetyBeltUse.aspx
Example: New Jersey passed the law in '85 and it took effect in '00.
Some states passed the law and it was needed immediately, but that was on new car purchases only. If the car didn't have safety belts when sold it is grandfathered in.
Not true at all. Can you tell me what cars were as safe as we have today prior to the regulations were put in place? Do you believe we would have cars as safe or safer without those regulations? Why or why not?
Examples like this are what I use to counter people who say regulation is horrible, free market should reign uncontrolled. Cars weren't and would not be this safe without regulation enforcing it.
I'm not sure I would force the "GM" label on something, but don't slap down companies that choose to say "Not GM" on their label (This happens already)
so your reading ability goes way down if you use another font? I find that my reading ability is unaffected by fonts (within reason -- I can't read wingdings for example =)
I'll be reading a book and then realise I've been on auto-pilot for the last 3 pages and actually have no recollection of what I just read.
I find I only do this when I'm tired. It is a good indication that I should put the book down and fall asleep. It actually works rather well, because often my brain isn't ready for sleep when I get in bed, but having this happen while reading I'll know I can fall asleep within a few minutes.
Your example is valid, but I do suggest the following to people who want the ability to trade these games: Make a unique steam ID For each game you install that you might want to trade/sell at some point. Then you just give the login for that game to whomever you want to give it to.
Certainly not convenient, but works.
Next Android release will be Jelly Bean.
You do get that only 1 of the 3 methods listed were "in theory" right?
My favorite is detailed here: http://www.sigwinch.org/characters/hoppingmad.html Essentially, 180 goblins dead, 900' moved, 102MPH average speed for those 900' all in 6 seconds.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joMK1WZjP7g I disagree completely.

This is where we will part ways and disagree. Unless of course you can convince me that unsafe cars are better for society...
Regulation was the target that the innovation went towards. It was the destination, not the driver.
You're wrong. You assume people understand what they are buying, which is false in the vast majority of people who buy cars.
How is it not a good example. I wasn't saying the cars were more efficient. I said they were safer.
False. Unless you think you can prevent someone from rear ending you while you're stopped at a stop light with traffic flowing in front of you?

You can. It is called a bicycle.

Just buy the one that says "NOT GMO" and assume all the rest are.

My daughters are 9 and 6, and they have never known TV without a TiVo. I'm not sure how they will handle it if we stopped using one.

Go to concerts to support the authors you do enjoy and search good music instead that being popularized by outlets such as MTV
MTV does music again? When did this happen?
Not really. Does your house disappear if you miss a payment?
In this case the homeowner has bigger guns than the bank.
