  8. HP took a shitty terminal product, and made it run a DOS, in 1981. It was a PoC and the salesforce blew it off. I know, I was there. Their PCs where nothing more than a collection of off the shelf parts, no innovation. No better than Dell or no-name Asian junk. Nothing innovative has come out of HP computer systems since 1980. Laser printers were OEMed from Canon, PCs were just clones, UNIX stuff was mediocre and overpriced. The great company that I had started with when I graduated from college became a collections of old, bitter men and people who couldn't get a job anywhere else. Good luck, Meg.

Snowden broke the law and has probably put many people's lives in danger. That is not up for debate in my opinion. But, we CAN debate the law, the function of the NSA, and the oversight of surveillance. The political establishment in the US failed. Claiming they were 'lied to' is a copout. All politicians who were part of the oversight should be thrown out of office next election. Next time someone throws an Obama T-Shirt at you and talks about how big government is good, ask them why the NSA is running amuck.

Several years ago, I was in France studying their film business for a potential projector product. One of the heads of the largest chain of theaters in Paris laid out the issue. The target French (young, with money to spend in theaters) watch the same Hollywood movies that everyone else does. Then, only one out of 25 top movies in France was actually a French movie. The rest of the French movies were 'boring, obtuse, and generally distasteful' for the target markets of mainstream theaters. But, he had to collect a tax for each picture show. The money goes into a 'pot' where it is doled out for 'French' pictures. Another exec told me that generally money goes to productions that have stars who are mistresses of someone important.
