    If you want to get technical, yes; he makes the logical assumption that there exists some objective reality, and that human perceptions are correlated to that reality. That's kind of the whole basis for the study of physics.

    Except what they're actually doing has nothing to do with juxtaposition. They're inferring the angle of the light at each pixel, and then using that angle to dynamically construct new perspectives. The person who wrote the article on Gizmodo just didn't know what he was talking about.

    Since I'm having a somewhat difficult time accessing their website at the moment, allow me to save you the time and summarize their argument.

    Thousands of scientists: "Wildlife is dying due to poisoning from lead ammunition being accidentally ingested. Here is the evidence."
    NRA: "NUH UH! LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE!"

    I don't even see why this is something worth fighting for. I guess non-lead ammunition costs a bit more? Come on, suck it up guys.

    Really? How so? I can't think of any way that my banking accounts are linked to my Google account.

    it's not like asking for a Credit Card number or even a SSN is any form of additional protection

    I was thinking more of a personal security question with a 10 attempt limit. Asking for a SSN seems a little extreme.

    I hope they require some hard proof of identity to use this service (more than just "signed into your Google Account"). It allows you to:

    • - ring the phone even if it's silent
    • - track its position using GPS
    • - wipe the data

    Not a tool I'd want falling into the wrong hands.

    This is true for any social animal (which humans most clearly are). Consider two sub-species of ants, one with members who work together, and one with members who hoard food to themselves. Which one will survive and increase its population the most in the long run? Take a guess. It's the simplest explanation for why humans have altruistic tendencies (despite the long-accepted explanation of "because God!").

    There seems to be a large public misconception that evolution is a process which works on individuals, when really it works on ENTIRE ECOSYSTEMS. This isn't Pokemon.

    Trademarks cover tradeable products and services, which are "are identical or 'colourfully' similar" to other products or services. It's right in the fucking name. TRADEmark.

    This claim would only have merit if EQ2Wire was selling the character account, and if Malshandir (the company) also was involved in the video game account... industry.

    While it would be nice if we could somehow cure sociopaths, I think just identifying them would be a good start. Maybe we could even prohibit them from running for public office or holding executive positions in publicly traded corporations...

    Excuse my bluntness, but this is a terrible idea. Living in a free society means that we should be free to be psychopaths if we so choose. And not all psychopaths are criminals; in fact, many are highly successful members of society (surgeons, CEOs, lawyers, journalists...).

    I think at its core, psychopathy is the presence of a strong conscious will; one that is capable of overpowering emotions, fears, doubts. I don't see why this should be viewed as an inherently "bad" thing; personally it's something I admire. It's these kinds of people that can change the world, for better or worse.

    If the reason that you don't have enough pilots is that there are "better paying jobs in the commercial sector with more stability", then start paying the pilots more! Isn't that how capitalism works? You can't expect intelligent people to take an inferior job simply out of patriotism.

    Any time some spectacular event like this happens (shootings, acts of terrorism, etc.), the end result is that our rights are further diminished so we can "prevent this from happening again in the future!"

    Because unfortunately, the average voter makes decisions based on emotions/short-term benefits, without considering the ramifications to the society as a whole.

    The Patriot Act was bad enough, but now we're going to stereotype people based on physical attributes they have no control over? Ridiculous. I'm almost ready to side with the conspiracy theorists... I mean, face it, if someone in power wants a more authoritarian government, the best way to accomplish that is apparently domestic terrorism.
