When I saw the "1.5 miles of laptops" comparison I immediately searched the comments for the inevitable Library of Congress comment, and here I am. I agree that this is a meaningless measurement, simply because I don't know what "1.5 miles of stacked laptops" can compute. How many laptops can you stack in 1.5 miles? Are we talking about MacBook Pros or some fat HP notebook? Are we talking about folding at home results or are we talking about excel spreadsheets?
At least a petaflop is defined.
Now pardon me while I go back to writing a Library of Congress worth of code.
I have good luck playing just about everything with my Quicktime setup:
In my/Library/Quicktime I have the Flip4Mac, OggVorbis, DivX 6, 3ivx, FFusion and AC3 components.
One problem had been the fact that people were encoding their DivX files to use WMA audio which quicktime couldn't handle before Flip4Mac. There was another problem I had in the past with audio but I think upgrading the 3ivx (or maybe it was DivX, I forget) component may have been the solution.
At any rate check to see if you have the same components installed as I do.
Besides, I'm not so sure it's even that bad. The link provided covered copying material from the Sony web site. I didn't see any mention of copying music CDs.
You've made your point time and time again, in several different postings. The point everyone else here is trying to make is that it doesn't matter who they are, *writing about them* shouldn't be a jailable offense. What's next, throw the Encylopedia Britannica people in jail for writing about al Qaeda?
You're pretty LOADING fortunate to have not run into LOADING any problems LOADING or LOADING annoyances when LOADING plyaing. Some LOADING aren't LOADING so LOADING lucky...
You know, I don't really think that's the point here. Let me explain.
In the game Everquest (as an example), if I'm playing a human character and an orc calls me "filthy human scum" or tells me he will enslave me, I don't get pissed off and feel personally insulted. That's because there is a difference between my character in game, and my real self. The same goes for any other characters in game. Just because my real race (and/or sex) happens to match my in-game race, doesn't mean that everything that takes place in game needs to be an attack on my person.
Moreover, the majority of fantasy MMORPGs are BUILT on racism and classism. Humans hate orcs, who hate elves, who hate ogres. Every race has at least one race they want to kill on sight -- the same applies to classes. Levels and level restrictions lock out certain players from particular content, presumably because in-game they aren't "educated" enough to use items or visit people. Why do people assume that sexism wouldn't be present as well in a "world" that seems built upon anger, hatred, and discrimination. We even have tons of documented evidence that it exists/existed rampantly in our own human history, so why is it so hard to believe that it doesn't belong in a game in which people kill other creatures just to see what they are carrying?
Role-playing a character -- in a game about ancient Egypt, no less -- who has sexist or classist views makes me a bigot no more than playing a character who kills humans makes me a murderer.
It works until someone else gives your email address away. "Send this to a friend" buttons, e-vite services, etc. are just waiting for your "pristine" addresses to come to them.
I'm using an SB Live under Win2k professional on a dual proc box (ABit BP6) and its been running for several months now. The EAX stuff works great in Everquest. Never had a blue screen yet. This is with the newest drivers.
PowerServer would be a good name.

Heh, nice on the Victor Kiam bit. I remember those commercials.

Exactly. And if you've intelligence greater than that of a gnat you pick the right language for the job.
Ahh gnat. Now that was a compiler.
Sad that a joke like this got posted, let alone modded up.
You could probably get one of your old DOS WordPerfect versions to run just fine under emulation
Nice "The Shinning" reference there!
Can you explain the meaning of this statement for the uninitiated?

Is this an Everquest 2 review?
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Since the arrival of Doom 3 I think we know to where the REAL market demand shifted.

I've been dreaming of exactly the same product. Put an extra set of controls and a disply on the head unit and you've got a sale!
Jon Katz. Now there's a name I haven't heard in a long, long time.
I believe, however, that Munich is the capital...
Let me guess, you must be an American, right?
Let me guess, you must be a pompous ass, right?
That's just it. Don't pay for Apple RAM. Buy it from the same place at the same price as the RAM you bought for your PC.
or for gzipped files just: zgrep -c default.ida /path/to/logs/*.gz

I thought that was pretty amusing.

PIII and P4 steps backwords? What about SSE in the PIII? The P4 isn't even out yet so how can you judge that CPU and its new features, like SSE2?
It's not just about clock speed.
The P4 will have a 400 Mhz bus, the 200 Mhz bus in the article was for an improved P3.
